I was wondering how many Grammy Awards in its entire history have been awarded simultaneously to father and daughter combinations? (Other combinations would be of interest but not relevant to my paying question..) | |

There have been three instances in which a father and daughter won Grammy Awards simultaneously. "When Dixie Chick Natalie Maines and her co-producing dad, Lloyd Maines, won the [2003] Grammy for Best Country album, Maine's said somebody should check the history books to see if another father and daughter duo appeared on the same Grammy. Turns out the answer is yes. In 1991 Natalie Cole sang a duet with her late father, Nat King Cole on 'Unforgettable' earning them a Vocal Collaboration Grammy for her and dad decades after he had originally recorded the song." Net Music Countdown http://www.netmusiccountdown.com/news/article.php?id=1s87di In addition to the Maines and Cole father/daughter wins, there is one other. In 1977, Royce and Jeannie Kendall, who performed as "The Kendalls," won a Grammy in the category Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. "When Royce Kendall started singing with his 15-year-old daughter Jeannie in their St. Louis living room, he sensed their natural harmony was good enough to bring to Nashville... They had their first hit with John Denver's 'Leaving on a Jet Plane.' A strong reaction to another hit 'Heaven Is Just A Sin Away' bolted them to the top of the charts and earned them a 1977 Grammy Award as well as the Country Music Association's Single of the Year." PBS Austin City Limits http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/artists/program209.html To sum up, the three father/daughter duos who have won Grammys at the same time are Lloyd and Natalie Maines (2003), Nat and Natalie Cole (1991), and Royce and Jeannie Kendall (1977). Hello Jaz, Im posting this a comment because the only father daughter combination I was able to find was Frank Sinatra in 1966 who won 3 Grammy awards and his daughter Tina who was nominated for but didn't win for These Boots Are Made For Walkin. A father-son combination that were awarded Grammy Awards simultaneously was Bob Dylan won three Grammys, including Album Of The Year, and his son Jakob Dylan won two at the 1998 awards show. John and Julian Lennon not in the same year, but in the same category. The Beatles won the Best New Artist Grammy in 1964 and 21 years later Julian Lennon was nominated for Best New Artist, but lost out to Sade It may have been a first in Grammy history father and son both winning major Pop Grammy awards in the same year. Bob Dylan won three Grammys, including Album Of The Year, and his son Jakob Dylan won two at the '98 awards show. Another father-son Grammy combination was John and Julian Lennon not in the same year, but in the same category. The Beatles won the Best New Artist Grammy in 1964 and 21 years later Julian Lennon was nominated for Best New Artist, but lost out to Sade. There was a father-daughter Grammy combo in the same year. In 1966, Frank Sinatra won 3 Grammys including Record Of The Year for Strangers In The Night and daughter Nancy Sinatra was nominated twice (but didn't win) for These Boots Are Made For Walkin'. Could you be referring to Natalie Cole who in 1991 recorded "Unforgettable with Love," a tribute to her father that includeded an electronically rendered father-daughter duet. The album netted seven Grammies, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/feature11/html/body_meet.html |

Too bad three-time Grammy winner Ravi Shankar was not nominated this year ... His daughters Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar were both nominated. I don't know if Anoushka Shankar won (the Grammy site is too busy at the moment), but Norah Jones won every award for which she was nominated, including Album of the Year! |

After all the hoorah and controversy with Natalie's remarks about President Bush, I wonder if the Grammy judges are sorry they picked the Chicks? |

Grammy nominated only, John and Bonnie Raitt: "One of Raitt's musical interests that probably gets less attention is the catalog of Broadway show tunes identified with her father, John Raitt. They recorded together on his Grammy-nominated 1995 album, "Broadway Legend: John Raitt," performing "Hey There," "They Say It's Wonderful" and "Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)." http://www.jsonline.com/onwisconsin/music/apr02/31946.asp |
