Hi, I am looking for a device that can dedect the presence of mobile
(cell) phones using GSM signalling. The device must detect GSM
signals only, not two way radio or DECT (cordless) handsets, pagers,
etc.

I am based in Ireland, so would need to be able to receive the product
here.

Hi garfieldireland,

I have found two english speaking companies, each of which offers a
product that detects only GSM signals. Looking at the product
descriptions on the respective company web sites, it appears that the
two products are the same.

Carinex Ltd, based in Hungary, has a product called "Silence GSM
Detector." Here is a summary of the product's features:

* wall mountable
* detects incoming/outgoing calls within 30 meters in the 900 MHz and
1800 MHz GSM bands
* detects an ongoing cellphone conversation within 2 meters
* many different alarm mechanisms supported: remote or built-in LED
indicator and sound alarm, pre-recorded warning message, electric
contact for centralized security systems, and miniature vibrator
* adjustable sensitivity
* uses a 9V battery or 12V DC power supply
* physical dimensions: 95mm x 60mm x 23mm (Looking at the picture on
the company's web site, there is a typo on the physical dimensions. I
have provided the correct figures here.)

This information was obtained from the company's product information
page:
http://www.carinex.hu/english/prod04.htm

You can also view a picture of the product on that page.

Hi-Tech Electronics Pte Ltd, based in Singapore, has a product called
"S-Detector." Here is a summary of the product's features:

* detects incoming/outgoing calls within 30 meters in the 900 MHz and
1800 MHz GSM bands
* detects an ongoing cellphone conversation within 3 meters
* many different alarm mechanisms supported: built-in LED indicator,
sound beeping alarm, miniature vibrator, or signalling an external
alerting device such as pre-recorded warning message, voice alert or a
lighted message box
* adjustable sensitivity
* uses a 9V battery or 12V DC power supply
* physical dimensions: 95mm x 60mm x 23mm

This information was obtained from the company's product information
page:

From the descriptions of the two products that I have given above, you
can tell that the products have very similar features, and are exactly
the same size. If you go to the two product information pages that I
have given, and look at the pictures, you will see that the products
look exactly the same as well. So I believe that the two products are
actually manufactured by the same company, but they are just being
sold under different names by these two companies.

You should contact the two companies, Carinex and Hi-Tech Electronics,
to find out the price of each product, along with the cost of shipping
to Ireland.
