Question ID: 166465
who made the prosthetic penis worn by Mark Wahlberg in the film Boogie Nights

Rated:5 out of 5 stars

I got yet another bit of circumstantial evidence, and the cumulative
effect gives me enough confidence that I feel I can post as a
definitive answer.

A web site of a Howard Stern fan has a 10/24/97 log entry describing a
visit by KNB Effects to the radio show, and they present Howard with a
copy of the prosthetic member used by Wahlberg in the movie.

The company is listed in the White Pages as KNB EFX Group:
7535 Woodman Place
Van Nuys, CA 91405
(818) 901-6562

I checked, and the phone number is indeed valid.

If you need anything further on this topic, please just ask for a
clarification and I'll do all I can to assist you.

Howard Receives Replica Penis From ''Boogie Nights''. 10/24/97. 6:40am
The guys who designed the prosthetic penis that Mark Wahlberg wears in
the movie ''Boogie Nights'' came in to present Howard with a replica.
The movie deals with adult films in the 1970's and Wahlberg plays a
character with a huge penis. The guys from KNB Effects Group produced
a brand new prosthetic from the same mold used for the movie.

thanks - by the way, are you a specialist hollywood researcher - we're
putting a film together about 'inside hollywood'
thanks again - really helped - you're a star

I'm glad the answer was exactly what you needed! I am not a specialist
in the area of movie-making. I just happened to have a random piece of
knowledge that worked out for this particular question. Knowing that
the work in question would fall under the realm of "special effects
makeup" gave me the lead I needed to track the rest down. Why do I
know that? I don't know; maybe from watching the movie F/X too many

"Everyone's talking about the prosthetic device worn by Mark Wahlberg
in the movie Boogie Nights. All I know is, a year from now, I don't
want that thing in a display case at Planet Hollywood when I'm trying
to eat."

My guess is that it was made by some baseball bat manufacturer.

At IMDB, there are 3 people credited with Special Makeup Effects on Boogie Nights:
James Hall
Louis Kiss
Robert Maverick

and Howard Berger is the special effects makeup supervisor.

I also found a web site that implicitly credits KNB EFX (Howard
Berger's effects company)

"Since the company’s inception, they have excelled in a wide variety
of effects. Prosthetics and character make-ups can be seen in
everything from [...] the highly recognized Boogie Nights.
