Hi again uzzz!

I believe the short answer to your query is BMI, however, you must
agree to the 'Terms' of the BMI site to view it online. Therefore, I
am not able to copy and display it here, but I can direct you on how
to do it.

Go to
http://bmi.com/home.asp

Agree to the "Conditions and Restrictions Regarding use of the BMI
Repertoire"

"Select a Site" drop-down menu:
"Repertoire Search"
Search:
"Title"
"War"
Display:
Songwriters/Composers
Publishers
Artists

The first item displayed should be the one you are looking for:

Edwin Starr is also listed on the writing credits on a few sites so
you may want to include him in your question.

Thanks journalist-ga

The Temptations recorded the song first in early 1970 and then Edwin
Starr made it into a number one hit during the summer. His version is
the one that is usually played on the oldies stations.
