1. Telnet - A command line shell interface (much like DOS) can be used to control a UNIX computer. SSH is an inreacingly popular replacement for telnet 2. D. Although is is impossible to eliminate zone transfers, you can decrease them by increasing the TTL. 3. D again. As #A hints, the NetBIOS names are being stored on the WINS server. Since NetBIOS names and domain names are resolved differently, it looks like DNS is not configured in this case. |

1) Actually, none of the answers fit. They all end with ".exe", indicating MS programs. For Unix, SSH is preferred to rexec, rsh, telnet, etc. The proper answer would require determining what client(s)/server(s) is/are available on the local and remote systems. 2) Somewhat of a confusing question. Is the third server going to answer queries about your zone (answer A would have to use zone transfers, answer B would require duplicate manual editing of files) or just user queries for systems on the Internet (answer D)? 3) Finding it with NT Explorer (Network Neighborhood?) indicates that both your system and the FTP server is running NETBIOS (not a good thing for a FTP server!!!). Answer D is the most likely cause of not being able to find it via your ftp client (although if "can't connect" error this may indicate other problems as your workstation not configured to use a DNS server would normally return the "host not found" error). |
