Hello Kwolff, According to Aladdin Systems, the maximum size depends on the version of Stuffit being used. From the "Stuffit Deluxe FAQ" at http://www.aladdinsys.com/support/techsupport/mac/dlx/dlx614.html the maximum size for "tranditional archives" - Stuffit Deluxe version 7 is now 4 Gigabytes. Another reference at the same site http://www.aladdinsys.com/company/pressroom/reviewers/StuffItDLX7MacREV.pdf indicates that previous verions had a limit of 2 Gigabtyes. The above two refer to the .sit format files. The next refers to the new .sitx format files. Another press release indicates the new version archive format supports "virtually unlimited" sizes (at least terabytes). http://www.aladdinsys.com/company/pressroom/releases/stuffit/091902Deluxe7.html I would expect this is due to increasing the size field from 32 bits (4 Gigabytes) to 64 bits (bigger than petabytes). Of course, in 1999, press releases indicated the old format had "no limit on archive sizes" http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/9902/28.stuffit.shtml so take those claims with a grain of salt. Search strings used to find this information include: stuffit archive maximum size and variations on that set of phrases. --Maniac |
