Question ID: 166973
Who are the customers of McKesson/HBOC Trendstar?

Request for Question Clarification by umiat-ga on 25 Feb 2003 11:05 PST
Are you asking for an actual customer list, by individual name, or are
you interested in general information concerning the types of
companies that use McKesson's products?

I doubt that McKesson would divulge the names of all its customers
without individual permission.

Please clarify exactly what you expect in an answer, as I am currently
working on finding some information.

Are you only interested in users of the Trendstar Technology? The
company has many other Healthcare Information Technology software
programs, such as AMISYS, HealthQuest, Paragon, etc.

I'm looking for as many of the actual company names as can be found
who are using just the Trendstar product. I understand that McKesson
will not give out the customer names. I am hoping that there may have
been mention of Trendstar in relation to companies who use it in
various articles, journals, etc published on the 'net. I thought I'd
try paying you guys top $$ to do the searching (being the
experts)instead of me spinning wheels on it all day.

Thanks for your clarification. I understand exactly what you are
looking for, now. I can come up with names of companies that use
Trendstar, but I cannot guarantee how many I can find through a web
search.

Will you be satisfied with as many as I can find, even if the number
is not large?

Clarification of Question by diverdave-ga on 25 Feb 2003 13:25 PST
I will be satisfied with as many as you can find, so long as it is
more than 10. Hospitals will be the main group that I'm interested in.
Is this ok?

Request for Question Clarification by umiat-ga on 25 Feb 2003 13:42 PST
That's fine. I will focus on hospitals first, and then branch off from there.

Hello, diverdave!

Thank you for your patience in waiting for my answer!

I have found quite a number of references pertaining to the use of
Trendstar in hospital settings. Some of the information was obtained
through unusual references, such as job postings. Though I have
included all the references I have found thus far, please be mindful
that some hospitals may have switched systems, especially if the
references are older. I am sure there are many more hospitals using
Trendstar than those I have found online, but I hope this list
provides a good start!

Customers of HBO & Company have found tremendous value by
incorporating the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium's databases
into HBOC Decision Support products.

"The inpatient database provided by the Consortium is critical for
measuring market share," said Andrea Holleran, director of strategic
planning at Jordan Hospital.

The chart shows the percentage of inpatient market share for all
orthopedics discharges from 14 hospitals located within Jordan
Hospital's service area. "By using these data online through HBOC's
TRENDSTAR product, I can view the data any way I need -- by DRG, by
service line or by geographic area," said Holleran.

Trendstar:

To assist in the provision and development of Casemix information the
Area implemented TRENDSTAR, an information system that integrates both
the clinical and financial feeder systems that exist within the
hospital, into one database. This provides a comprehensive and
cohesive Casemix information data base that can be made available to
the widest possible platform of users across a wide range of
disciplines. It is a system that is designed to assist with
management issues.

The implementation of TRENDSTAR within SEH originated from a decision
made by the NSW Information Systems Steering Committee (ISSC) on the
16th December, 1993. The objectives of acquiring such a system were:

to provide an effective management tool for the Area and hospitals

to facilitate the effective allocation of resources from Area to
hospitals, enhance the service planning process, and enable
accountability of health professionals for the utilization of health
resources

and to assist with the development of quality improvement programs.

In June 1994, the TRENDSTAR Clinical Costing/Decision Support System
was selected as the preferred system for NSW Health.

The Area commenced the implementation of TRENDSTAR in September 1995
with a 6 month project at St George Hospital. TRENDSTAR was then
rolled out to the remaining six acute care facilities over the next
three years, culminating in an Area wide TRENDSTAR network in June
1998.
