I want a list of award and "top 100" ranking opportunities for
technology executives at a billion dollar company. Specifically, I'm
interested in nominating a senior vice president who is head of
research and product development. I'm thinking of rankings sponsored
by magazines and organizations but am open to any options. The more
the better. Would like web links to applications and deadline info.

I presume you are requesting a listing of organizations and sponsors
of well-regarded technology awards, including contact information and
web addresses, in order to submit applications for same. I'm
proceeding to answer your query based on that presumption.

Thanks for asking! I've compiled a listing of general technology and
research and development awards. These awards are offered in multiple
disciplines and fields of research. Several are magazine awards and/or
rankings, others are awards and fellowships offered by scientific
foundations and government agencies.

There are a number of further individual award and ranking sources,
including government entities, businesses, trade journals,
professional societies, regional organizations,and specialized
magazines offered in much narrower categories which may also be useful
to you. I will be happy to provide the additional compilation of
sources if you will let me know the area or speciality of technology
(communication, computing, environment, etc.), a specific field of
professional expertise (engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, etc.),
and region and/or state, so that I may expand the listing with awards
directed to these areas of technology expertise.

The InfoWorld listing is along the lines of what I was thinking of.
Some of these awards are interesting but probably unattainable. Didn't
see too many top 100 rankings--I know these are popular.

I would still like to take another look for awards focusing on product
devlopment, innovative uses of technology, online user interface
research, project management, etc. Anything connected to legal
publishing would be terrific.

Thank you for your reply, Holly. I've located an additional magazine
Ranking award this evening, and will continue searching during the day
tomorrow. Now that I know to search specifically in the areas you've
mentioned, I believe I'll be able to add industry magazines, journals,
and professional organizations which offer awards or rankings. I've
run across several legal and publishing awards that I will also
research to locate nomination procedures. A number of states, state
governors, and universities offer Technology awards, and I've also
located a general technology Regional award (Eastern U.S.) that looks
promising, as well, but is of course, region specific.

Computerworld

Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders program accepts nominations of
Technology Leaders, and through a review process selects 100 Premier
Leaders. The magazine devotes a full issue to these selectees.

Computerworld Events
http://www.computerworld.com/events/p100?from=bsm

Here, Computerworld lists its current Premier 100 Leaders, and their
company affiliations. They also describe the selection process:

"How Computerworld Selects the Premier 100 IT Leaders
First, Computerworld issues a call for nominations of IT Leaders and
asks the nominees to fill out an extensive, probing survey to see how
they match up with the characteristics in Computerworld's "IT Leaders
Index." This IT Leaders Index is a set of characteristics developed by
Computerworld's research department that describes business and
technology people who guide the effective use of information
technology in their organizations. (For example: they take calculated
risks; they nurture their IT staffs with creative work environments;
and they tie technology to business goals.) Computerworld has used
this index since our inaugural Premier 100 IT Leaders program in 2000
and updates the index each year. The result: 100 of these IT Leaders -
the ones who most closely map with the index - are selected as the
Premier 100."

I'll post additional sources after further research tomorrow.

Hello, Holly,

A progress report for the day. I have searched a number of IT magazine
sites. I'm about halfway through a rather extensive listing at
CompInfo Center.

CompInfo Center - IT Magazines
http://www.compinfo-center.com/itmags.htm

Within this list, I've located two award/ranking offers. First, The
Real Awards, jointly sponsored by Transform Magazine and Intelligent
Enterprise Magazine. This particular award is given for technology
solutions rather than as an individual award, so it may not be
appropriate for your purposes.

Real Awards
http://www.realwareawards.com/2003/2003call_index.shtml

The second award/ranking I've found may better fit your criteria. CIO
Magazine annually selects a top 100. This year's deadline is
approaching in just a few days.

The online application is available and the process explained at:

CIO 100
http://www2.cio.com/cio100/apply.cfm

I'm working on the legal publishing angle as well, but haven't yet
turned up anything on a national level. I will continue this line of
research, and also my search through the IT magazine list to locate
additional sources.

Thank you for your patience. I'm a part-time GA Researcher. Over the
past week or so, my time availability has coincided with intervals of
Google Answers site upgrade and maintenance. I've not been able to
post a further update until now.

I have extensively reviewed another 78 technical publications. I have
contacted a fair number of them by telephone or e-mail, and have been
told with almost 100% consistency that any rankings they offer are
done on the basis of perceived need, and scheduled via editorial
planning decisions, and content management of the individual
magazines.

Having worked my way through the Directories (listed below), I've
uncovered two addition annual award projects, but again,
unfortunately, I'm not convinced they meet your requirements.
