Dear woody123-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

Here it is, short and sweet…

This information comes directly from the Embassy of Italy in the
United States of America. It contains every necessary step-by-step
process of obtaining a work visa for Italy as well as links to the
appropriate applications you will need to fill out and submit prior to
your departure:

EMBASSY OF ITALY IN THE UNITED STATES
http://www.italyemb.org

Depending upon your anticipated length of stay, your reason for being
there, whether or not you are employed or have of promise of
employment, whether you intend to remain in Italy permanently or not,
and so on, will each determine whether or not you will also need a
“certificate of residency”. It is also important to note that you will
not be permitted to rent an apartment, open a bank account or clear
customs without one should you need to do any of these things. Be sure
to ask about this when you contact the Italian consulate or when you
submit your work visa application.

Here is the contact information for the Italian Embassy:

EMBASSY OF ITALY IN THE UNITED STATES
3000 Whitehaven Street, NW - Washington, DC 20008
Tel (202) 612-4400 - Fax (202) 518-2154

Below you will find that I have carefully defined my search strategy
for you in the event that you need to search for more information. By
following the same type of searches that I did you may be able to
enhance the research I have provided even further. I hope you find
that that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any
questions about my research please post a clarification request prior
to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final
comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near
future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Best regards;
Tutuzdad-ga
