Is it possible to get a recording -- on audiotape, CD or as MP3s -- of all of Richard Feynman's Lectures on Physics? I have been able to find something called "Six Easy Pieces", where the editors have chosen six of the supposedly easiest lectures (including one, Atoms in Motion, where the original sound quality is bad). Amazon.com also lists various volumes of the complete audio collection as 6-tape packs, but I haven't been able to find one package that I can buy with all the lectures that were recorded in 1961-3. | |

For the printed Feynman Lectures on Physics there are three volumes with many chapters each (and the chapters are divided into roughly 4-9 sections each). Volume I - Mainly Mechanics, Radiation, and Heat has 52 Chapters; Volume II - Mainly Electromagnetism and Matter has 42 Chapters; Volume III - Quantum Mechanics) has 21 Chapters. [Making a total of 115 chapters.] [The Six Easy Pieces are: Ch1 - Vol I, Ch 1 - Atoms in Motion Ch2 - Vol I, Ch 2 - Basic Physics Ch3 - Vol I, Ch 3 - The Relation of Physics to Other Sciences Ch4 - Vol I, Ch 4 - Conservation of Energy Ch5 - Vol I, Ch 7 - The Theory of Gravitation Ch6 - Vol III, Ch 1 - Quantum Behavior The Six Not So Easy Pieces are: Ch1 - Vol I, Ch 11 - Vectors Ch2 - Vol I, Ch 52 - Symmetry in Physical Laws Ch3 - Vol I, Ch 15 - The Special Theory of Relativity Ch4 - Vol I, Ch 16 - Relativistic Energy and Momentum Ch5 - Vol I, Ch 17 - Space-Time Ch6 - Vol II, Ch 42 - Curved Space Personally I would question buying most of the other lectures to listen to just audibly, as the numerous figures and equations [hearing an equation audibly is harder to analyze than by being able to look and stare at it] are very important to developing a good understanding. [However the 12 more basic lectures listed above shouldn't be too difficult without images/equations, but again would be made significantly easier with them.] [Also, if you are vision impaired and are able to focus well and visualize things, you may be able to get by.] |
