A few questions about Time magazine. Most of the answers you should
find at www.time.com.

I read in a book that there is a CD-ROM you can buy that has every
article and every cover in the history of Time magazine, but I can’t
find it on the Time website. So where is it, and how I can buy it?

There was a cover of Time that featured Arnold Schwarzenegger on the
cover. The headline was "Movie Muscle". It came out, I think, around
1992. Which issue was it?

Which issues featured Steven Spielberg on the cover?

Hi there,

eBay is good for these types of searches...

Spielberg made the cover on July 15, 1985
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3502717224&category=29795

Arnie made the cover of Rolling Stone in 1991:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3502937457&category=2245

The article "New Muscle At the Box Office" appears in a 1985 edition
of Time. He is not on the cover of the US Edition, but may have been
for the Australian edition:

The CD was known as the Time Almanac. From doing a Google search I get
the impression that it only existed for the years 1993-1995:

This search of Google Groups, for example, would definitely have a
1996 edition in the results, if one existed;
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22Time+Almanac+CD%22+1996&num=30&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&newwindow=1&safe=off

One of the eBay listings for copies of the Almanac says:

TIME MAGAZINE Multimedia Almanac, Windows 95, a multimedia journey
through 7 decades of time, from the roaring 20's to the dawn of a new
millennia, chronicles from Time journalists and photographers, more
than 22,000 Time articles, 89 live action videos, hundreds of photos,
full-color maps & profiles, 400 tables and charts.

All copies for sale at eBay:

robertskelton,

Surely the Time Almanac would be available from Time themselves?

I have a picture of the cover of Time with Schwarzenegger on it. I can
email it to you if you give me an email address.

I'm pretty sure Spielberg was featured on the cover more than once.

There is no mention of the Time CD on their website. I find it mighty
strange that they stopped making it, but there you go. They still have
a print almanac each year.

Arnie is probably on the cover of Dec 24, 1990 - although the image is
too small to be sure. Alongside the small pic is the caption
"America's Box Office Muscle":

Two more Spielberg covers, March 25, 1995, and May 19, 1997:

It seems doubtful that Time Australia would do its own cover on
Schwarzenegger. It only does its own covers when the story is
specifically related to Australia somehow, for example the Sydney
Olympics or the cricket World Cup. I’m quite certain it would have
been the US edition.

The sub-heading on the cover says, "How the global film market has
made Arnold Schwarzenegger its hottest star" From this I think the
issue came out soon after the release of Terminator 2, seeing as this
was his biggest film.

There is also a sub-heading at the top of the cover saying, "Aquino
Resilient" Maybe this will help narrow down the year that the issue
came out.

Also, it’s impossible to make out the date on the cover, but it does
look like the month was a short word, so it’s likely to be in May,
June, or July.

Hey, how’s that for detective work?

I have come to the conclusion that the year in question is 1984, the
year of he original Terminator movie, and a year in which Aquino was
in the news a lot. This is also one year before the Time magazine
archives begin, which would explain why it couldn't be found there.
I've tried every type of web and image search I know of, and after
several hours I have decided that there is nothing online that can
give the date of the issue.

The one site that could have helped (where collectors show their
collections of old Time magazines) is not currently working:

robertskelton,

Are you positive about the almanac CD not being available from Time?
Seeing as they make it, it would seem only natural that they would
also sell it.

I turned their web site inside out and there's no mention of the CD.
This isn't so strange - they appear to have stopped making it 7 years
ago.
