Is there a program, script, or other software tool that will allow one to query the various whois databases for .com, .net., .org, .biz, .info, and .us using a keyword. For example, if I wanted to find all registered domains in the above gTLDs that contain the term "pepsi," I should be able to enter the term into the program, and obtain a list of all the registered domains containing the term. For an example (restricted to .com, .net, and .org unfortunately), see http://www.namedroppers.com/advanced.html . Basically, I am looking for something similar that also handles the new gTLDs .biz, .info, and .us. |

Namedroppers.com is quite a search tool! In fact, as far as I've been able to discover, it's unique among online search services. The closest similar search engine is available from: [ http://www.domainsearch.com/ ] DomainIt!, NameBoy, and Dotster all offer their own extended versions of keyword searching, but without quite the exact flexibility and exclusion capabilities of Namedroppers. [ http://www.domainit.com ] [ http://www.nameboy.com ] [ http://www.dotster.com ] Many freeware and shareware CGI scripts are available for domain lookup, you'll find an excellent listing of them at the CGI Resource Index: [ http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Internet_Utilities/Whois/ ] In this listing wasn't able to find a freeware script that has the same functionality, but after looking at the source, I believe several of them could be modified to provide the features you're seeking. Cdomain Software offers CdomainPro, a domain lookup script which can be configured to provide keyword searching. It is priced at $99.95 for a single-user license. This is a framed site, you'll need to click on the Products button on the left menu, then scolldown to the bottom portion of the page to select Cdomain Pro from the product descriptions. [ http://www.cdomain.com/ ] Direct link to framed content: http://www.cdomain.com/cdpro.html I've also located a couple of software programs which can extract the data you you're looking for from whois databases. Domain Name Analyzer from Softnik Technologies has the ability to search domain names using keywords and some filtering criteria. It's freeware - download is available at: [ http://www.findgoodnames.com/dna.htm ] Available Domains from AlphaCom Software comes in both Professional and Standard editions. They support all 524 Top-Level Domains, and offer tremendous flexibility in search and filtering, as well as reporting. The output format of the free download trial is different than Namedroppers, however, the purchased version will allow configuration of the reporting display as you wish. Additional resources for Domain Name lookup may be found at: [ http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/Name_Search/ ] or using the search terms: domain name lookup services ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&q=domain+name+lookup+services I hope these resources are useful to you. If you would like clarification of anything, please, just ask. ~larre-ga | |
