Hi bsouth,
I'm sorry I have taken so long to post this answer but as it turned
out, there has been alot of information to sift through. I've done my
best to find you a wide range of unbiased opinions of the RainSoft
Water Filtration System. I'll divide the links between "Consumers",
"Professionals", and "Reviews" but I've intentionally avoided retail
sites. Take note though, that it is important to have your water
tested by an independent laboratory before choosing a filtration
system to find out your precise needs - looking for the nearest
Agriculture Extension Service nearest you would be a good place to
start.

2. Water Quality Association (WQA): Confirm that your dealer is a
member:

"How can I tell whether the dealer knows the home water treatment
business?
The Water Quality Association is an organization of manufacturers,
distributors and dealers that sets minimum acceptable levels of
knowledge for water treatment businesses, sales and equipment
installers. Ask if the dealer is a member of WQA and if any employees
are WQA-certified water specialists, sale representatives, or
installers.
WQA is a voluntary organization, so non-members are not implied to be
less competent. However, persons who have attended training sessions
and taken tests to demonstrate their knowledge should know their
business. "

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, or if this didn't
satisfy your request, please post a clarification before rating my
answer. In general, RainSoft Systems seems to be both reliable and
effective, although high priced. Find out what you need to filter out
(sediments, parasites, chlorine, heavy metals, etc) and choose the
appropriate filter for you. Don't succumb to high pressure salemen,
and whatever company you choose, check their credentials.
Thank you and good luck,
hummer
