Hi! I'm looking for Kundalini and Hatha Yoga in Naples, Italy. I
don't speak Italian so resources in English would be best, however as
you know Google has a wonderful translation feature so I wont be sad
if thats what I get :)

I have spent some time looking however I usually end up with shoddy
results and I haven't gotten anyone to return e-mails.

To Italian's Naples is spelled 'Napoli'.

This is very important to me I appreciate your help! ( 20 dollars
worth of importance anyway :)

I'm curious why my question has bee locked since I put it up last
night? The FAQ says they will only be locked for 2 hours.

Hello alterego,

First, to answer your question about the locking. When a researcher
locks a question, the lock can be maintained for up to two hours while
an answer is being prepared. An answer can, of course, also be
provided in less than that time. However, the researcher can also
renew the lock for further periods of two hours. Alternatively, the
researcher can release the lock to make the question available to
another researcher, who will then lock it in his/her turn. However,
in your case a further factor came into play. Your question contained
the word “Google”. This caused it to be locked automatically until a
Google editor had the opportunity to review the content. This is done
so that any questions about the Google service itself can be forwarded
to the appropriate person at Google, if required, rather than being
left to be answered by the contract researchers.

Here is the information I have been able to find about yoga in Naples.
I have found two definite leads, of which the first is probably the
most relevant to you. Unfortunately, the sites are in Italian. I
have tried to summarise all relevant information that I could find.

1. Villaggio Globale Parsifal, Centro di Benessere Naturale
Psicofisico (Centre for natural psychophysical wellbeing)
http://www.sanamente.it/

Click on “Entra” on the righthand side of the home page to get to the
pages about the centre.
The centre is situated in Vomero at Via E. Alvino, 134 - Napoli -
80129 (tel and fax: 081 2298530)
You can obtain a map of the location at http://www.multimap.com
(select Italy, and then enter the street name and town).

The centre holds weekly and weekend courses on a number of subjects,
and both yoga (with no further clarification) and kundalini yoga are
listed.

Clicking on “orari corsi” brings you to the time table page. Courses
listed as currently available are:

Yoga: Mondays 8pm, or Tuesdays 10am, or Thursdays 4pm, or Fridays 7pm,
or Saturdays 10 am
Kundalini Yoga: Wednesdays 6.15pm.

There is no further information on prices, etc.
More info from: sanamente@interfree.it

2. Siddharta Centre http://www.siddhartascuola.org/

This appears to be primarily a shiatsu school, however, it has a
course in Hatha Yoga, Mondays 20.30 - 22.30 (to get to this
information, click on “Corsi” in the navigation bar on the left, and
then scroll down to “corsi amatoriali” and then select “hata yoga”
BTW, they also do a course for people wanting to become teachers of
yoga (“yoga insegnante”)

Contact details:
Sidharta
Via Santa Maria della Neve 18
80122 Napoli
Tel. 081 668426
(no email details are given anywhere on the site)

Travel details: Metro: Stazione di Mergellina; (a map of the metro
is available at: http://web.tiscali.it/no-redirect-tiscali/defalco_ivanoe/trasporti/net/trasp.html
)
Funicular: Piazza Amedeo; Buses: R3 - 150 - 152 - C24
Aliscafi: Mergellina;  Cumana: stazione di Corso Vittorio Emanuele;

There appears to be an online booking form (click “Iscriviti”),
however, it talks about sending in a prepayment of 60,000 lire, so I’m
not sure how up to date this is! However, if you click on C.R.A.L you
get to a page which informs that the monthly fee for “corsi
amatoriali” is 42 euros for yoga.
This page also mentions that the office is open for telephone
enquiries on Monday-Friday between 4pm and 6pm.

Less promising leads:

A web site which gave details of Satsang study groups gives the
address of a yoga centre in Naples for its meeting place: "Studio
Vidya" - Centro Hatha Yoga Iyengar - via del Parco Margherita, 33
(vicino piazza Amedeo) - 80121 Napoli - tel. 081 402281.
However, this centre is not mentioned on the Iyengar Yoga web site
http://www.iyengar-yoga.com/Yoga_Centers/Europe/Italy/ and I was
unable to find it in the Italian Yellow and White pages.

The contact details for the national centre for Kundalini Yoga in
Italy are :
A.N.I.K.Y. - sede nazionale
via Feccioli, 56 - Roma 00139 - tel. 06-88641298
Information from: http://www.jayanwalter.com/centri-spirituali-testo.html
They might be able to give you some further local contacts.

An article about kundalini yoga from “Mondo Donna” gives a Naples
contact, but with no further information: “Centro Gerado, via Scala
12, Napoli”
NB The Geocities link that is given does not contain information
relevant to Naples. The other link is dead.
I did find the web site of the Gerado Centre. This is actually a
group of doctors interested in alternative health, rather than a
centre for courses etc. The information in English dates from 1996!
The timetable on the site is for 1998. The English information about
yoga is as follows:
“As for as Yoga research is going the Hanuman Group and the medical
staff of our association has started a serious test on a group of "
provers " of the effect of the Yoga Kundalini on psycho-somatic
problems , anxiety , depression , insomnia . The teaching of Yoga
which is done in group in the ability of the individuals to learn the
technics of self-help . This advanced and sophisticated technology of
self healing was given to us in conformity of the Mahan Tantric S.S.S
Bhai Sahib Harbajan Yogiji Singh Khalsa .”
I don’t think this is really relevant, however, it could be that the
people from here might have knowledge of other yoga activities in
Naples. There is an email link on the home page, although it might
well be out of date. http://www.napoli.com/gerado/default.htm

A search through international yoga resources, found through strategy
5, did not provide any extra information.

Search strategy 1. “hatha yoga” Napoli 2. yoga corsi Napoli 3.
“kundalini yoga” Napoli 4. “hata yoga” Napoli 5. world Italy yoga
alterego-ga rated this answer:5 out of 5 stars and gave an additional tip of: $5.00
Wonderful - The maps of Naples are a very nice bonus. I am assuming
that using quotation marks around your search queries makes a large
difference as I came up with completely different information.

- Thanks much, maybe this rating will bump you from 4 1/2 to 5 :-)

Thank you very much for the kind words and tip, alterego. Yes, using
quotation marks makes a difference, because it tells the search engine
to search for those words as a phrase. In the above example, it is
less necessary if you are looking for hatha yoga, because those words
will tend to appear together mostly anyway. However, kundalini is
used in other contexts too. If you use kundalini and yoga as your
search terms, without putting them in quotation marks, you will also
pull up pages which mention kundalini and also yoga, but which might
have nothing at all to do with kundalini yoga.
