My re-cycle bin icon has disappeared from my Windows 98 SE desktop. 
Why has this happened, and how do I get it back?

There are a number of discussions on this on the Internet, but perhaps
the best and simplest fix (for WIndows SE) can be found on this page:

You can read the information, but then simply download ths small file
to a location you can easily find on your computer, double click the
file and if asked, reply with a yes to add the information to your
registry. Upon reboot, your recycle bin should reappear and be
functional.
