I am an A-level student in the UK I am doing geography coursework on
the coast I want to find the answer to the following questions
How does the management of longshore drift cause conflict at
Hengistbury head, Bournemouth? (This is a coastal town in the south of
England).
What do the local people feel the conflicts are at Hengistbury Head
and what they feel is and should be done to manage the conflicts? I
would appreciate a reply with an answer to what the general conflicts
are for this type of question (at any location) as information on this
particular site seems to be limited. Thanks

Your best source would be the local newspapers. There will be
archieves going back many years in the local libraries. Using
original sources like that should go down well with the examiners.
Excellent excuse for a trip to the seaside, especially if your
deadline allows you to wait until the weather improves slightly!

I used to sail in the area, so I know that the lonshore drift is
predominantly eastwards. If unchecked, this brings sand from the
Purbeck coast, across Poole bay, onto Bournemouth beach anmd then on
to Hengistbury, where it would trap against the headland (which to
some extent acts as a nautral groyne) reducing costal erroision there.
However, Bournemonth depend upon its sandy beach for tourism, which
is a large proportion of the local economy. Thus they have artificial
groynes, which trap a lot of sand, and thus increase errosion further
east.
