I have contacted someone at this academy to ask whether she has any
information. I will let you know if I receive a reply.

The archivist for the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (often
mislabelled the "Philadelphia Academy of Art" or some other variation)
replied:

"I have no record of a Marie Shellcope. The artist is not listed in
the
1985 first edition of the Who Was Who in American Art, a fact which
suggests
you will have trouble finding anything about her."

I have found only one reference on the Web to her:

"Artwork of Tusculum alumnus to be on display during Homecoming"
["During high school, he studied with Marie Carter Shellcope, who was
a graduate of the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts [sic]."]
Tusculum College

I just realized I made an error in the name myself: officially, it is
the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
