Dear babyb,

- Had the song a Hawaiian or similar feeling?

- Was it (apart from the mysterious word) sung in English or in another language?

Regards,
Scriptor

babyb --

Now that I have read your last comment (slow song, oft-repeated
"mystery word"), it seems to me that "Tammy" might well be the song
you are seeking. If you agree, just let me know and I will post an
answer.

might have put this in the wrong box , sorry..
I am familiar with both Tammy & Amore and it isnt them. If I could
remember the tune I could provide more clues. It was an ordinary
english song, not foreign. I am sure the question has a real answer. I
will ask my own expert and post an answer if he knows. The other word
that comes to mind is "whimoway a whimoway" as having a similar sound
sung by a male group but thats not it.

I am stumped, but I have a few far-fetched guesses.

Could the song be "That's Amore"? I can see how this might sound like
"tamorey".

Or could your "tamorey" be more of a "wimoweh"? That word is prominent
in a wonderful '60s song called "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."

Possibly "tamorey" is "Hona-Lee," the land where "Puff, the Magic
Dragon" lived?

Any more details that you may recall would be welcome.

It is definately a song with the word in it. How it is spelt is the
trick as I have tried numerous spellings that I can think of. It was a
hit pop song if my memory is anything to go by. (not good).
Google has no "sounds like" lookup .

Ta-more-ay was how it was said, fairly slowly & the word appeared many
times in the song.

Then there is the 1957 Debby Reynolds hit, "Tammy:"

"I hear the cottonwoods whisp'rin' above
Tammy! Tammy! Tammy's in love!"
etc. etc.

I agree with one of pinkfreud's suggestions: "That's amore" sung by
Dean Martin. If you want to check it out, there is a snatch of it at
http://www.bigdancelist.com/dean_martin.html
and here are the lyrics: http://www.thetouchpage.com/Lyrics/Amore.htm
The note above the lyrics says the song reached number 2 in 1953.
However, as a child I remember it playing constantly on the radio in
the 1960s.

You mentioned that the song sounds similar to a song with "whimoway a
whimoway" in it. I am certain that the "whimoway" you remember is
actually "wimoweh," which is repeated throughout the song "The Lion
Sleeps Tonight." This gives us a good clue, if your song resembles
that song.

Here's more on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight":
