Hi uzzz,
It's nice to hear from you again - yes I've been keeping an eye on the
map too. Well, sorry to say, if there is a list of songs about
Hummingbirds, I haven't been able to find it. I tried to make you a
list, but only came up with eleven for now (and some of those really
aren't about the birds), but we will keep looking as time permits and
send you any new ones that turn up.
1. "Hummingbird": lyrics by Les Paul and Mary Ford: Recorded by Les
Paul and Frankie Laine, 1955:
"Hummingbird, hummingbird should be your name
Too restless to settle too wild to tame
Too restless to settle too wild to tame
Hummingbird, hummingbird should be your name"
http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/h/hummingbird_les_paul.html
2. "Hummingbird": Eddie Reader
"Hummingbird, hummingbird
I knew I'd find you here
Bright lights draw you near, they always will
All that work and worry just to stay still
Hummingbird, hummingbird
Always on your mind
Sweetness you must find, does it get you down ?
You never reach the sky and you cannot touch the ground"
http://www.lyricsdownload.com/
3. "Hummingbirds": Weird Al Yankovic
"I love to watch the Hummingbirds just hovering for hours
They look like mini-helicopters pollinating flowers
And yet I still feel sorry for the little Hummingbirds
They always have to hum because they never learned the words"
http://www.lyricsdownload.com/
4. "Hummingbird": Seals & Crofts
"Oh Hummingbird, mankind was
waiting for you to come
flying along
Heavenly Songbird we were so
wrong, we've harmed you
Oh Hummingbird, lend us your
wings
Let us soar in the atmosphere of
Abha
"Lift us up to the Heaven of
Holiness
Oh Source of our being!"* --Oh,
Hummingbird"
http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/h/hummingbird_seals.html
5. "Hummingbird": Cat Stevens:
"There's a yellow flower by your bed
Sadly droopin' it's perfumed head
So you won't smell it, I know what you'll miss
And there's a hummingbird, a hummingbird,
A hummingbird, a hummingbird,
Oh there's a hummingbird singing."
http://www.letssingit.com/?http://www.letssingit.com/cat-stevens-hummingbird-jjm1sfv.html
6. "Songbirds": Jack Grunsky:
"The crow, the quail, the nightingale
The skylark, the hummingbird
Chickadee, chickadee, chickadee, chickadee"
http://songsforteaching.homestead.com/Songbirds.html
7. "Hummingbird": Leon Russell:
"Sometimes I get Impatient
But she cools me without words
And she comes so sweet and softly my hummingbird, have you heard
And I thought my life had ended
But find that it's just begun
'Cause she gets me where I live
I'll give her all I have to give
Talking 'bout that hummingbird"

8. The South Park Album (Television Compilation) soundtrack lyrics:
http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/thesouthparkalbumtelevisioncompilation/nosubstitute.htm
9. "Humming Bird": Lyrics: C. Anderson, Music: B. Anderson/C.
Anderson:
"Yeah.
Humming Bird, sing to me so dark and sweetly,
Humming Bird, silver turns a daily living
Humming Bird, songs of all my pain and glory,
Humming Bird, chirp your little heart to me.
Humming Bird buzzing,
Humming Bird lullaby
Humming Bird, harmony
Humming Bird, sing
"

10. "HUMMINGBIRD": Salvador Cardenal:
"In the garden of God there grew a flower
that a hummingbird sensed
he flew over the earth
fields of peace and war
but he didn't find his flower"
http://www.duoguardabarranco.com/index.html
11. "Hummingbird": B.B.King Lyrics:
"Sometimes I get impatient,
but she cools me without words
And she comes so sweet and so plain,
my hummingbird and have you heard,
that I thought my life had ended
But I find that it's just begun,
'cause she gets me where I live
I'll give all I have to give..."

Good morning uzzz,
Tough question, but I guess I'll go with number 10, "HUMMINGBIRD":
Salvador Cardenal. Looks like the little fellows are on the move north
- hopefully the weather will co-operate. Last year, as I remember, the
first wave of them got hit hard by a freak spring snow storm.
Thank you for everything, your words, rating and tip. I noticed number
7 and 11 on my list are the same lyrics, so I really only posted ten -
sorry about that. I can't believe there are only ten songs with
hummingbird in the lyrics - I will keep an eye out for more.
Take care,
hummmer

Hello uzzz,
Your welcome - I was quite startled when I first layed eye upon the
list and yes, I agree that there must be some good ones in there. I've
tried to find some lyrics but haven't had much luck yet, but will keep
at it.
Hoping you've had a nice weekend - I, for one, will be glad to see the
first signs of spring.
Take care,

Good Evening Hummer
Thank you for the articles. Sorry I missed the piece on CBC.
Does Bob have a favourite hummingbird song?
Its a very cold one here. Even with a bright sun today you couldn't
stay out too long. Hope those northbound hummers don't travel too
quickly. Two months from today should see some busy feeders. When do
they arrive at yours?

Hi uzzz,
It looks like the Hummingbirds haven't been listening to weather
reports - they're almost into South Carolina already. We put our
feeders out May 1st, just in case there are some early birds around.
The last five years, they have arrived the 16th, 5th, 5th, 14th, 13th
(2002-1998).
Stay warm,
hummmer

Its hot, hot, hot- an extraordinary summer extension :) ... but our
fine little feathered friends left somewhat early when the first
breath of fall chills hit the region early in September. Are yours
still around?

Hi uzzz, good to hear from you again.
Actually, I've been meaning to send you a note - we spent some time in
Alberta this August and we had Rufous Hummingbirds coming to our
window. It was very exciting, as we had never seen them before.
Needless to say, they act the same as 'our' guys and the only
difference seemed to be the colouration.
When we left, I filled all of the feeders to the tippy top, giving
them about one week worth of syrup. After that, they were on their own
for about three weeks and I was curious to see if they would stick
around just for the flowers. Well, all of the adults left, but we did
have two juveniles still here upon our return. I think they finally
left about one week ago. I'm glad they're gone, I start to get worried
that they'll get caught in an early autumn snowfall. Ofcourse, as you
say, it's been so hot that there's little chance of that happening.
Take care,
hummmer

Hi uzzz!
Holy cow, I had no idea they were so close - thanks for the heads-up.
I just boiled up a batch and I'll put some out in the morning, just in
case. I don't see what else there is for them to eat, though - not for
another week, anyway.
Will keep you posted,

No, not yet. I'm worried, it snowed yesterday - not a little dusting
but *alot*. I did see a female Oriole, though (just one day).
Will keep you posted,

Male, 5:30 pm today Tuesday. I'll try to get him on the map, but I
doubt it. He sure looked nice - also, the Barn Swallows arrived today
(the Cliff Swallows & Tree Swallows were already here). My Primroses
are blooming, so all in all, the world seems pretty good right now.

No dot, not enough room I guess. Keep your eyes (and ears!) open -
yours will arrive at any moment. Our guy is attracted to the red high
bush cranberries that none of the birds ate over the winter - he
scolds the bush when he finds out they're not flowers (there really
isn't much for him in the way of flowers for him yet). H

Hurray!
Despite rather low temperatures all day a lone male has been clearly sighted.
Hope he came with a sweater or better a Skidoo suit. It was zero
degrees C just this morning.
Lots of flowering bulbs and some dandelions... and of course the dozen
feeders with a variety of concentrations of syrup mixtures.
Doubt if my just submitted dot will show up. Amazingly someone in
Nfld. reported a sighting on May 9th!
Hope you have a wonderful Spring & Summer with some families nesting nearby

2 males, 1 female. I forgot about the wild plum blossoms - that is
what they are eating. We have bulbs too, but I don't think I've ever
seen them go to them.
Glad to hear your guy finally arrived - the female shouldn't be far
behind. It was hot today - 25-30 deg. H

Good afternoon hummer
I checked the site yesterday and no one was on the map yet. I am
hoping for an early Spring. Amazingly all of the robins have returned
here in droves... this is very early and everyone has noticed their
early return. Can the hummers be far behind?
Best regards

Hi U, thanks for the note. Well, we can't boast any Robins yet (that I
know of) but do we ever have alot of Goldfinches, the backyard is just
full of them.
I managed to view the map today, no hummers yet.
