We bought a rechargeable electric cheese grater last year whilst on
holiday in Italy. It is manufactured by a company called "CAT" and
the model is called "La Gratugia". I think that the company is
Italian. The grater stopped working after four uses and we want to
return it to the company in Italy to look for a replacement. Can you
find a postal address for this company where we can send the grater -
we want to get the appropriate department to contact e.g. Customer
care or similar. Thanks! |

Thanks for looking at this - however the model suggested is not the
one we bought. The grater is handheld and has a cylindrical
rechargeable battery which slots into the handle. The make "CAT" and
"La Gratugia" are clearly marked on the casing of the grater.

was it of considerable value? ...did you purchase it from a shop, or a
market? ....does it have any other markings? e.g. "made in italy". I
suspect the one you bought may be a replica, possibly manufactured in
the far east. I believe "La Grattugia" (with 2 't's) means "the
grater", but if your model only has one 'T' then this may be an
indication that it hasn't been made in Italy. The model i asked you
about before is the only electric cheese grater i could find called
"La Grattugia". You mentioned yours has a rechargeable battery... have
you tried replacing it? ...or checking for loose connections? ....Does
the battery itself or the battery compartment have any markings?

Thanks Jack - I made a mistake with the spelling - "La Grattugia" is
spelt correctly with 2 "t"s on the casing. The grater itself cost
about $50.00 and we bought it in an electrical shop on the island of
Elbab which seemed pretty upscale. Normally I would just bin it
however it was a gift for my sister who had been looking for one of
these for ever and was thrilled to receive it and therefore I am
trying to replace it. Have checked for loose wires etc and no sign of
anything wrong there. The battery seems to be recharging normally -
the motor just isnt turning over. The box + instructions that came
with it (now binned!) were all in Italian which led me to believe that
this was an Italian company. No other markings on the casing

i havent been able to find anything on this model or the manufacturer
"CAT". There are a few italian companies with "CAT" in their title,
but they don't appear to be connected to what you are after. Would you
be interested in a similar model by another manufacturer? You say it
appears to be recharging ok -- are you sure? ...is there a light that
indicates that it is charging, or is this an assumption? If you are
set on fixing your grater, then maybe you could take it to an
electrician -- he may (at least) be able to diagnose whether the
problem is electrical or mechanical (i.e. the motor). If it is
electrical (i.e. loose circuitry) then he may be able to fix. if it
needs a new motor, then it may be possible to find a replacement
motor, not necessarily from "CAT" but from another source (?). But,
that's a bit of a long-shot. It might also be worth talking to a
"Delonghi" technician (for example), as they also make handheld
graters and they may be to advise you better (just a thought).

Thanks for all your work on this - I think that at this stage I may
just order a new one from a more reputable manufacturer on the net -
I may give the repair option a try just in case it is something small.
As regards your query on the battery recharging - the light on the
recharger unit comes on when you slot the battery in - so it seems to
be functioning correctly. THanks for all your suggestions.

Hi, wavy!
As your Question is about to expire, I thought I would check to see if
you found the information you needed, or whether you are still looking
for the manufacturer of your cheese grater, and whether the picture at
http://image1ex.villagephotos.com/pubimage.asp?id_=1748795
is the correct one.
If so, please let me know, and I will post that information for you.
