I am trying to buy the book:

"Ketovot Mibeit Ha'almin Hayehudi Ha'atic Beprag (Inscriptions from the
Ancient Jewish Cemetery in Prague)" by Otto Muneles. It was published
in 1988 in Jerusalem by the National Israeli Academy of Sciences,

but cannot find it anywhere. Can you help me to find a bookshop or
whatsoever where I can purchase the book new or second hand.
Thanks

Hi zipeter,

Any chance that this is your book?

Muneles, Otto & Vilimkova, Milada
Stary Zidovsky Hrbitov v Praze
Statni Pedagogicke Naklad.. Praha 1955.
Series: Zidovske Pamatky v Cechach a na Morave, 3.
"The Old Jewish Cemetary of Prague".
Czech text + a 39-page summary in Hebrew characters.
Consists of historical introduction pp 13 - 99 + a 373 page catalogue
containing photo-illustrations, descriptions and translations of the
epigraphs of 170 tombstones.

Could it be possible that the 1988 publication that you requested is a
reprint of this 1955 edition?

Hi Hummer,

no, unfortunately this is not the book I am looking for. The one I am
looking for is based on the one you mentioned but is in Hebrew and has
a lot more information.
Thanks,
Zipeter

Dear Vitalmed,

thank you for your help. I have borrowed the book here in our library
in Germany, but really am trying to purchase it(either used or new). I
have no idea, why it is so difficult to find it (it was only published
in 1988).
Regards,
Peter Zimmer

I have spoken with someone and placed an inquiry with the Israel
Academy of Sciences. I did not find the book in their catalogue on
their web site, which is: www.academy.ac.il, but I am awaiting their
response for more information and shall let you know as soon as I
hear.

Dear Zipeter,

This is your book.
I have found a copy in a library. Would you be interested in borrowing
it? Whereabouts are you located? I think I can either locate it near
you or tell you how to borrow it from my source library.

I shall keep an eye out for one for sale in the meantime.

Dear Zipeter,

Most offices in Israel were closed Friday afternoon and over the
Sabbath, but Tami Korman of the Book Department at the Israel Academy
of Sciences, the publisher of this book, responded to my message
affirmatively. The book can be purchased directly from the Academy for
80 NIS plus 8 NIS, that is less than $20, Her telephone number is
972-2-5676233 (preceeded by your international prefix) and her e-mail
address is tami@academy.ac.il. Their web site, again is
www.academy.ac.il

This book is not so scarce, afterall, as you can see. I hope I have
the opportunity to help you with further Hebrew or Israeli sources or
with genealogical information along these lines if that is what you
are after.

Best wishes,

Dear Zipeter and Hummer,

My fellow researcher's courtesy is very kind, but Hummer was afterall
first at posting an answer which appears to be entirely valid. You now
how choices where to buy from, and maybe one will work out better for
you for one reason or another. I appreciate the chance to be
compensated for research done but suggest that Google allow Hummer's
answer to stay if all is satisfactory with you. Would only that a
mechanism existed that we could all be rewarded for our input, but we
have to be practical. Sometimes being helpful is reward enough.

Dear Vitalmed and Hummer,

I want to thank the two of you. Unfortunately Vitalmeds answer came a
little late, I had already ordered the book with one of the bookshops
Hummer had given me. The price is not much higher though.
I had tried to find a shop myself but had not been successful and so
decided to ask google answers. I think I gave up too early.
I want to thank you again.

Dear zipeter,

Thank you for your thank you, I appreciate it. The main thing is you
have (or will have) your book and I'm happy to hear the price wasn't
too bad - I'm all for finding the "best buy" and will go to great
lengths to do so. I'd feel awful if you paid double the price because
of me.

Hats off to vitalmed!

Sincerely,
hummer

Hi vitalmed,

Just a note to say everything is all set for you to post your answer -
it's still fine with me and I've corresponded with Google and they are
in agreement.

Hi again zipeter,

I just heard from another bookstore that I contacted and he quoted me
a price of $24 plus shipping, so I thought I'd pass on his info as a
good resource for future searches.

Hello Hummer,

Thank you again for your courtesy.
Following your notes, I think that at this point that my going ahead
and "ch'apping" , or claiming, the answer might seem a bit of
presumptuous of me. The main thing is that our customer Zipeter has
been served appropriately, and apparently to satisfaction.
How about if you take this one, and I take the next turn at a similar
question?

Regards,

vitalmed
