Jefftappan,
Gallery is a very mature, well-supported open source PHP script that
is well maintained, and consistently develped with great features.
It allows a user to upload an image, as you describe, or to upload
multiple images or a zip file. It allows users to add text for these
images. It also has a permissions system to help you control which
users are allowed to do which functions. It can run on its own, or
"wrapped" in your web site, or as a plug-in using many of the popular
PHP portal scripts. If you choose, it can automatically create
thumbnails to your specifications for uploaded images. If you like,
you can also enable a commenting system that allows visitors to the
site to make comments about the various images.

Based upon your description, I believe this is what you are looking
for. For image gallery scripts, this is probably the most widely
used. However, if I misunderstood what you are looking for, I am
happy to look further.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. This is close but not what I need. Deep in
their web pages it states that right now under the current version it
cant be uploaded to custom HTML pages. I have found a service that
uses the exact programing or program code I need. It is
http://www.partingwishes.com/mylife.asp
Although not the same idea, if I could find a program that had all
these features, I would be set and ready to move on my project. Can
you take a look and see if you can either figure out what the program
is, or if there is one just like it on the market now?
Thanks
Jeff

So far, all I have been able to determine is that it appears the site
you referred to is using a custom ASP application created using Visual
Interdev 6.0 and FrontPage, Microsoft's web development platform.
However, I will look for other gallery scripts with the feature you
seek.
Just so that I have a clear understanding, the feature missing from
Gallery is that images are not allowed to be uploaded if the site
creator embeds the gallery within his web site? Or, is the missing
feature that it does not allow an individual user to have custom HTML
in the album that they create. I'm sorry that Gallery did not have a
feature you needed.
There are so many scripts out there, I suspect I can find the feature
if I am certain what I am searching for.

Hi,
Yes, it is missing the ability to create custom templates in the form
of custom HTML pages, just like the site link I posted. Like I said,
if I could find something close to what that site uses
http://www.partingwishes.com/mylife.asp
I would be all set. It has everything, custome pages, ability to
control number of uploaded pictures, and text placed in specific
locations of customer designed HTML pages, and has all the membership
and database for signups etc... I am sure there is an off the shelf
program to do this. Many are found in the customer web page design
websites, where you pick from templates, fonts, colors, pictures etc,
all uploaded easily push a button and a custom made webpage is created
and stored on their server.
I will keep looking myself.
Thanks
Jeff

It is too bad that Gallery won't meet your needs, it is such a
wonderful script. Based upon your requirement to allow users to
control the layout of their pages, I suggest that you consider some of
the "Virtual Community" scripts that allow you to offer users the
ability to build their own pages.
Here were some that I found:
Jade (PHP, Unix) Free/GPL (This was written for use at memoriam.org)
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/13291.html
Demo: http://memoriam.org/
WebUMake Web (Perl, Unix and Windows) $199
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/614.html
Demo: http://www.webumake.com/wweb/demos.htm
SiteGalore
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/15116.html
Demo: http://www.sitegalore.com/sebase/testdrive_home.jsp
HTMPL (Perl, Unix) Free/GPL (Rough interface, but, core features
supported)
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/11555.html
Demo: http://www.vmeste.org/cgi-bin/htmpl/htmpl.cgi
WebMaker Plus(Perl) $100 (Rough interface, but, you may be able to
customize)
Demo: http://www.zonecoaster.com/webmaker.html
I think Jade may work for you out of the box, as I note, it too was
used for a memorial web site. WebUMake Web looks good, though, it may
have more features than you are looking to manage. SiteGalore looks
interesting, and, it is completely hosted, though I was unable to
determine the price. The other two, I include for completeness, but I
think they would require a lot of front-end work to get them to
improve their ease of use enough for the average user.
I hope that helps. Searching for "Virtual Communities" in your
scripting language of choice will yield many additional results at
hotscripts.com.
