You would need a dvd player that plays vcd's, this is the format that a cd-writer program converts an mpeg-1 file to. Nero can convert mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 files into vcd and svcd respectively but your dvd would HAVE to be able to play vcd and/or svcd to play them. If you manage to get hold of a dvd player that plays vcd's, then you can even convert avi's to mpeg's using a fantastic program called tmpgenc, you can find it here: www.tmpgenc.net. The best thing about this program is, it's completely free. Here is a website that shows you how to convert a dvd to vcd: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/dvd2vcd_with_smart_dvd2avi_tmpgenc.cfm This is a good site that tells you how to configure tmpgenc well and also how to predict how large the file size will be (obviously you dont want any movie to be over 1600mb coz it will then have to go over 3 cd's): http://www.kvcd.net/guides/kguide/kvcdguide.htm Personally i just use the project wizard, it rips avi's fine with no problems at all. One interesting thing to mention is that you can actually fit 800mb of mpeg onto a 700mb blank cd, there's mathematics in it somewhere but i won't go into it here. But the answer to your original question is you'll need to buy a new dvd player and make sure it plays vcd's! sorry... |

actually there are dvd players that play mpeg files. I have one! I will let you know the brand and model just let me know if it will be sufficient answer. Also, never overburn a cd more than 700Mb as stated in the comment above, it may damage your player, especially the older models that were never built to support more than 650Mb. (my car cd changer went bad because of overburn) |
