Here is a question from a Japanese woman married to a Japanese man and
living in the USA. Presently she has a spousal visa. She wishes to
divorce her husband, but wants to remain in the US and continue to
take English classes (so she can prepare for the nursing exam.)

-What kind of document do I need exactly in order to apply for F-1
visa.
I searched about this on the website, but there are few sites,
mentioned the way that people who already have visas and live in the
U.S. apply for changing their visas. In addition, each site says the
different way. One of sites says I must need a document of my
husband's agreement about changing my visa. Do I need this? or maybe I
need other one. So, I want to know EXACTLY what kind of document I
need and how I apply.

-What I should do after I get F-1 visa and divorce is just to change
my visa's name, I have to gather some document, or I have to apply for
F-1 visa again?

<The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration services (BCIS) processes
visa applications. In order to get an F1 visa, you need to apply to
study at a BCIS-approved school. On acceptance the school should give
you form BCIS Form I-20 A-B/ID (Certificate of Eligibility for
Non-immigrant (F1) Student Status – for Academic and Language
Students. You need to send this form and form I-539 (Application to
Extend/change Non-immigrant status to the BCIS. Form I-539 can be
downloaded at the following page:
http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-539.htm

You also need to prove that you have the sufficient financial
resources to stay in the United States.

You will need to notify both the school and the BCIS of your change of
name and also change of address. This must be done within 10 days. To
notify your change of address you need to file form AR-11. This can be
downloaded at the BCIS website at the link given below. There is no
downloadable form on the BCIS website for notifying a change of name.
I suggest you write to the BCIS notifying the change of name,
providing evidence of your divorce.
The address of the BCIS is:
BCIS
PO Box 7134
London, KY 40742-7134>
