Question ID: 17268
How can I import comprehensive baseball statistics (all batting &
pitching records from 1876 to the present, both career and season
stats) into a manipulable spreadsheet format such as Microsoft Excel?
Does such a database already exist? I don't want to cut and paste
statistics from an online stats provider into excel. That would take
forever.

Basically, I want to have four separate databases: 1) career batting
statistics, 2) season batting statistics, 3) career pitching
statistics, and 4) season pitching statistics. I want all of these
stats at the individual level and in a manipulable database. (As
opposed to team or season).

Please do not respond that I have to enter all the info by hand or cut
and paste all of it. That is not useful to me and I am already aware
of that option.

All stats are available online, just not in the format that I need.

The baseball archive provides the data that you're seeking.
http://baseball1.com/statistics/

They offer three versions for download: Access 2000, Access 97, and
"comma delimited text" (CDF) file. It's possible to convert any of
these into Excel, but your best bet is probably the comma delimited
text file.
For instruction on importing CDF into Excel, try:

Search: importing cdf excel

I hope this helps. Good luck.
