What does "combined" mean? If the iron filings and sulphur were just mixed together the gas would have been hydrogen. Even if they had formed ferrous sulphide it's possible there would have been unreacted iron, in which case there would have been a mixture of hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen. Ian G. |
