In our office, each PC is loaded with Microsoft Office and we run
Outlook from each individual PC. We then 'Share' folders (e.g
Calendar) to enable others to view/edit/add entries so that they can
see and edit our movements while updating ours simultaneously. This
has always worked in the past, and continues to work between our MD
and GM. However, when the MD tries to send me an 'Invitation to
Subscribe' to his Calendar, I receive the invitation in my mail, but
upon trying to open it to accept, an error message comes up "The email
address this invitation was sent to does not match your default email
address. You should not accept or decline this invitation if you were
not the intended recipient". I obviously don't accept/decline as it
is obviously going to stuff up something. If I'm not the intended
recipient, why did it come to me? What is going on? I have checked
my mail options over and over again and everything looks fine. I send
and receive internal and external emails fine. |

Many people have multiple email addresses that end up in the same
place. For example, your default email may be joe@mycompany.com. YOur
MD may have you as j_doe@mycompany.com. Your postmaster has arranged
that both addresses land in your Inbox, but simply comparing them
makes it appear that they don't match. Have you compared the email
address your MD has for you to your default email address?

Greetngs nightly,
I believe I can help you, but would you mind clarifying a few things
first:
1. What version of Outlook is everyone using? Outlook 2000? XP?
2. Which version of Microsoft Exchange are you using in your
environment?
3. Is everyone using these Net Folders configured to use the
Corporate/Workgroup setting on Outlook or is anyone setup to use the
Internet Mail option?
I can tell you that if the Net Folders are working when you get this
message and you get the Accept/Decline buttons showing up correctly,
then most likely everything is setup properly. The message you are
receiving indicates that the email address the invitation was sent to
*may* not be the default SMTP transport address as defined on the
Exchange server (it may be an alias or otherwise). The person that
sent the invitation may have typed in your Internet email address
instead of pulling it from the Exchange global catalog listing or they
may have you setup as a contact with an address that is defined
different than the default on exchange.
I personally don't think that any harm will come by accepting the
invitation as long as the Net Folders are setup and working properly
otherwise. If you want to clear the error before proceeding, I would
look to the person sending the invitation and verify that they are
pulling your name from the Exchange global list when adding you to the
permissions. I would also check the setup in Exchange and make sure
the default SMTP transport address is set correctly.
I hope this helps, but if not if you'll let me know the answers to the
questions above, I'll be happy to assist you with troubleshooting the
problem further.
Sincerely,
PWizard

BTW, on further research, it appears that, if you are not using
Exchange what you are trying to do it simply not reliable.

Also, try a Google Groups Search using:
"accept or decline this invitation if you were"
