While rebuilding my C drive, with two applications, I got the
following message: The instruction at "0x771c741a" referenced memory
at "0x001638d0". The memory could not be "read".
I tested memory by changing the bios to disable fast posting - no
message returned. I punched through the above error message,
apparently successfully but am still bothered by it. |

Hi jimbodd-ga,
The error message you received can have both hardware and
software causes. To provide you with a solution, we will need to know
what operating system you are using, and with what applications and
under which conditions you receive these error messages.
Note that if you are using Windows 2000, you can most likely fix
this problem by downloading and installing the latest service pack
[SP3] from:
- Windows 2000 Service Pack 3
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp3/default.asp)

Hi jimbodd-ga,
To eliminate faulty RAM as a source of your problems, test your
RAM using MTest86, a standalone diagnostic program that you can freely
download and install from the following website:
- Memtest86 : A Stand-alone Memory Diagnostic
(http://www.memtest86.com/)
Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that one of the applications that generated the
message was Quickbooks. I don't remember the other. SP1 is installed.
