Hi. I've been searching the net for a good money-saving tips web-site
but I can't find one. They all offer cheap advices, things that every
one knows. I want a site that offers original and interesting ideas.
Let me give you an example of what I'm looking for. My target market
is newcomers to Canada (but American ideas will definitely apply too):

1. If you're renting a car, don't forget to mention that you have that
platinum or gold credit card so you wouldn't have to pay for the
insurance. (Many companies don't ask you, YOU have to throw this at
them)

2. Silvercity (FamousPlayers) cinemas offer a cheap movie tickets on
Tuesdays (in Canada it's $8.50 CAD). The point is that many cinemas
offer discounts on a particular day of the week.

As you can see, these tips address savings in different areas:
entertainment, transportation, etc. Please list sites offering
$-saving tips "also" for food, electronics, books, and any major area
that you can think of. Thanks.

Thanks for your search. I found some of the products you mentioned
useful, but even though the products you've listed save money, they're
more like newly-patended gadgets than "ways" of saving money. And, for
instance, something like ZeoFresh Refrigerator Packet doesn't save you
any money. If you look more closely at my examples, you'll realize
that my emphasis is more on "things you can do" or "how to be smart"
rather than products you can use. Still, I appreciate your effort, and
if you are about to "answer" this question, I'll give you two more
examples so you know exactly what I mean:

[GROCERIES]: 1. Buy your groceries in bulk from companies like Costco.
You have to pay an annual membership fee of around $50 (in 2001), but
it's sure worth the money you'll save later on.

[see what I mean, a newcommer will probably not know about Costco, and
also notice that the tip is specific and does give specific info too
($50)]

[BOOKS]: 2. If you know that you are going to buy more than $187 worth
of books in the next 365 days (about 8 books), then you better buy the
iRewards card (from Indigo or Chapters), so you can save 10% on all
regular-priced books in Chapters, Indigo and Coles. Why $187 Because
$187 + GST = $200 and 10% of $200 is $20!

3. [IN TRANSPORTATION]: Save a lot of money by purchasing your tickets
a few weeks in advance. (For example, Greyhound has such discounts)

You got the idea... See how interesting and thoughtful the tips are?
Now this is the list of categories in which i'm interested to collect
money-saving tips:

Books
Car Rentals
Computer Needs
Eating & Restaurants
Electronics
Groceries
Media
Miscellaneous
Traveling
Vacation

Thanks for your help and i'll increase the price for this answer, and
i'll tip you too, if your answer is really what I want.

Dear Amirehsans-ga

If you want to know the best publication I ever found,
with honest-to-goodness money saving tips and product reviews,
it is BottomLine Personal by Boardroom publications.

They have a searchable website at
http://boardroom.com/

If you want to link to them, contact them and their editors,
or marketing department will be happy to help you locate
specific material. I know, I've worked with these folks.
http://www.bottomlinesecrets.com/cust_service/contact.html
(Their publications contain no outside advertisers, so their
opinions tend to be unbiased.)

As to one of the best sites for getting solid discounts?
http://fatwallet.com/
Tim Storm and his team have built up enough of a loyal
following to have the leverage to arrange for solid discounts
from vendors.

Do you want more? I can go through my sources.

Best wishes,

Your TaxMama-ga
