Hi Tp168,
Since the number is subject to change anytime, could you at least give
us your preferred year where we can take this result? Thanks.

2002 would be great but if you can get numbers from other years, that
would also be helpful.

This information is not readily available online. Let me inquire from
POEA if they have such info.

Just a note, I found figures stating the number of Filipino registered
nurses who went abroad from January-August of a certain year. That's
all that's easily found on the Net.

Hi! Thanks for the question.
It was a difficult hunt but I was able to find the following figures
per country.
World Total of Filipino NUrses working abroad - 250,000 (World Health
Organization) (year 2002)
http://www.uniquesearchassociates.com/immigrant.html
http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2002/may/13/metro/20020513met5.html
US - 50,000 (year: 2001)
http://www.geocities.com/reggiedoc/PNA50statesvision.htm
Uk - 15,000 (year: 2001)
http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:do8GoBhTRZ8C:trivia.5u.com/filipinos.html+filipino+nurses+US+census&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
Canada - 50,000 under the LCP (2001)
http://pwc.bc.tripod.com/resources/RaceGen/speech.html
I was not able to find statistics for Australia. To somewhat make-up
for this, I have here a figure from Austria.
Austria - 20,000 (1995)

I hope these links would help you in your research. Before rating this

US - 50,000 (year: 2001)
http://www.geocities.com/reggiedoc/PNA50statesvision.htm
when reading this, the 50,000 is just an estimate of the total. how
many actually came to work in 2001?

Hi again and thanks for asking a clarification before providing a
rating.
It is unfortunate that when we talk about population statistics like
these the ones who do the study only provides estimates to be safe in
their pronouncements. Furthermore for Filipino or other migrant
workers who may come and work in the US without the necessarry
docments or as we say in the vernacular as TNT or (tago ng tago). Even
the US census and labor figures for Americans are estimates as well.
I hope that this clarification supplemented the answer I gave above.
Thanks.

While we are waiting for the data, my friend techtor-ga assisted me
and gave this info.
"Government data puts the number of Filipino registered nurses working
abroad at 300,000 and rising. From January-August this year alone,
7,855 professional nurses left for abroad, according to statistics
from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA)."

Once I get a hold of the main info I will post it here.
Thanks.

are the US numbers correct? there were only 316 nurses that migrated
to the US in 2002? it seems kind of low.

Yes as I said these are from the most reliable figures which is from
the POEA which is the agency keeping track of Filipino overseas
foreign workers. As you can see that for each year it has been pretty
consistent and that the main bulk actually goes not to the US but to
the UK.
Thanks!
