My searches turned up absolutely no cautions about the possible
negative impact of ionizers on computer health or lifespan
(see the searches listed below).

What did show up is that computers, along with monitors, put out
a great deal of positive ions (which have a negative impact on
human health and lifespan) and that ionizers are a good thing to
have near the computer, for the sake of the user(s).

Article #505

by T. Neil Davis

"This article is provided as a public service by the Geophysical
Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, in cooperation with
the UAF research community. T. Neil Davis is a seismologist with
 the Institute."

"The electric field caused by the positive static charge that
appears on a CRT in normal operation sweeps the nearby air of
negative charges, thereby depleting the negative-ion concentration
in the immediate vicinity. Apparently when the ion concentration
is lowered by this or any other means--air conditioning does it
too--workers complain of headaches, lethargy, dizziness and nausea."

and

"After the experimenters turned on the ion generators, they found
that the tested persons had fewer headaches and other complaints
than before. Only five percent then said they had headaches,
whereas 20 percent of the workers complained of headaches before
the ion generators were turned on. The number reporting dizziness
and nausea dropped by more than half, down to less than one percent."

Here's an ionizer specially designed for use in computer areas,
sold online by MGT.com:

"Our ES-2000 is specially design for computer user and in area
where computers are present. A lot of research have been done
by scientists that computer monitors generates a dangerously
high level of positive ion radiation in the faces of computer
users. Positve ions radiation can cause computer users to
experience depression, anxiety and fatique. The hazards of
working with computers are very serious. Using our ES-2000
helps to reduce all this symptoms."

"OUR ES-2000 generates NEGATIVE IONS consistently to neutralize
the positive ion generates by the cathode ray tubes(CRTs) in
 the computer monitor."
http://www.mgt.com.my/es2000.htm

Another site which sells ionizers notes in their FAQs:

"If you have computers, placing an ionizer two or three feet
from a computer monitor (to your right or left) will help
neutralize the positive ions that emanate from the monitor."
http://www.negativeiongenerators.com/faq.html

They sell a separate "Dust-Grabber" unit in conjunction with
their ionizer, or you can purchase their all-in-one model.

Since ionizers also attract and trap dust from the air, one placed
in the vicinity of your computer should also reduce the amount of
dust which enters your computer and is deposited on the fan blades
and internal components. Such dust is known to shorten PC life by
acting as a blanket on components, slowing the fan speed and
increasing the operating temperature, which is one of the main
factors in the lifespan of a computer.
