Hi ak51793-ga,

Men and Women have competed in the same sport and there is no law that
I can find that support that they are prohibited to do same.

Here are some articles to read.

Women vs. men: Time to compete on equal terms?
http://csmweb2.emcweb.com/durable/1999/10/08/p1s5.htm

Women in Sports & the Olympics
"Women are already competing successfully with men in some Olympic
sports. In Olympic equestrian events, women and men compete together,
and women are regularly among the winners."

Hope this helps.

Do you mean that there is no law that men can compete against women in
team sports? You know, like on different teams?

Hi ak51793-ga,

I must apologise for the delay in response.

"In 1972, Congress passed Title IX.....

Did you know that a girl must be allowed to try out for the boys' team
if there is no girls' team for her in that sport?

The Law says that any member of the "underrepresented sex" (the sex
that has the fewest opportunities) has to have a chance to play on the
team of the overrepresented sex if that player is not provided with a
team of the player's own sex. It is okay for a school to say a girl
or a boy cannot play football for a non-gender-related reason like you
are too small to play or you are not strong enough to play as long as
the standard is fairly applied to both boys and girls.

Did you know that a boy does not have the right to try out for a
girls' team if there are more boys playing sports at your school than
girls?

Since boys have more opportunities than girls (they are members of
overrepresented sex), a boy playing on a girls' team would take away a
participation opportunity for an underrepresented sex. Thus, in the
interest of the 'class' (all girls). boys are not allowed to take
spots on a girls' team even though the reverse if permitted"

Dear jeanwil,
thank you soooo much for that answer. I needed that in formation. But,
i was thinking, and I would also like to know if women are aloud to
play against boys in teams sports, not as in being on the same team,
but as in one team has girls and the other team has boys and they
compete against each other in that sport.
Thank you,

Hi ak51793-ga,

There is no law that states that women team cannot play against men
team in the same sport. You will not see it happen because men will
feel inferior if they loose they are not taking that chance. It is a
gender ego issue not a law issue.

Women's wheelchair basketball team hopes to play mens' teams
“Playing against the best, in some cases, means playing against
Division II men's teams. The team is facing the challenge of wanting
to play top men's teams but being denied due to their gender. The
women have tried to book games against men's teams, only to have the
teams back out.
"They are basketball players on the court, not just women," Frogley
said. "The men need to open their eyes and see them as athletes, not
women."
Frogley believes that many men's teams do not want the stigma of
losing to women. The teams they played last year dropped the women off
their schedule this year because they were badly beaten, he said”
