I need a script that takes a PDF file and converts it to a jpg file of
a certain size. Using PERL would be best. But I am open to other
solutions.

Actually, it will have to be a perl script. Also, it's important that
the resulting jpg image looks good, i.e. not "jaggedy".

As far as I know there is a Perl library for creating PDF files, but
none exist for reading them.  The best option would be to use
Ghostscript.  Which can read PDF and output in a variety of formats
including jpeg.
