Hi there,

Google has indexed your web site, as you can see from this search
result:

The problems you mention are purely ones of ranking and page design.

Google doesn't look at META keywords. Google primarily looks for
visible words on the web page. When I searched for your first keywords
"Margarita Machine Rentals", your site does not appear. This is
because you do not have a page in which all three words appear.

When I search for a phrase which appears on one of your pages -
"Regular Margarita Mix" - it appears in the results:

The best place for keywords is having two or three in the title, and
make a different title for each page. Instead of having "pricing" as a
page title, try "Margarita Rental Pricing".

The other problem is that yours is not the only web site which
provides a Margarita machine rental service - there appear to be
hundreds. If other sites have a higher PageRank than yours, they have
a better chance of appearing near the top of the search results. The
best way to improve PageRank is to get many other web sites to link to
yours.

The best way to see your site's current PageRank is by using the
Google ToolBar:

Hi Robert..

Thank you for the answer about the keywords, that helps. I have made
changes to the URL. Since Google is used by Yahoo, is this how they
search for keywords also? My site doesn't even come up at all on
yahoo, and I have submited the info through site submit about 6 months
ago( tried to submit on yahoo, but never found the link to submit for
free) I know yahoo uses google as the search engine so why would
google find rentmargarita.com and yahoo.com not. This is all a
mystery to me, and if there was a book you could recommend to help me
understand the WWWest I would appreciate it. ( I know it all changes
fast but a base understanding would help)

Also when does google update there listing for the search engine,
daily, weekly, monthly? There was such a program called "a Web
Crawler" is that still used?

Lastly, can you list many keywords in the title to help people find
you? Is there a maximum?

Thanks again,

John

Hi again,

The results should be same for Yahoo and Google, except that Yahoo
doesn't have advanced features like site-specific searching (the first
link I gave you). Right now the search results at Yahoo and Google are
a little unpredictable, due to the "Google Dance" that occurs when
Google has its monthly update. Basically, it just means that it takes
a while to update all of their thousands of servers, so when you do a
search you might get an updated result, or an un-updated result. I'll
do a comparison in a couple of days and get back to you on how similar
a search result from each is.

I'd love to recommend a book on the Internet, but I've never read one!
Perhaps a commenter could offer suggestions...

Google is constantly crawling the web. The changes appear when Google
does its monthly update, the most recent of which was a couple of days
ago. The next one should be in the first week of April, but you never
know - they don't tell us when it will be.

Don't put more than 8 or 9 words in the title. Less is better. I try
for a three word phrase with two popular keywords in it. Remember that
the title shows up in the search results, so it is important that it
also inspires searchers to follow the link. Your current titles are
fine. Here's a reasonably accurate list of the most searched for
phrases containing the word margarita:

I did a serious of tests, and Yahoo has slightly different results. It
seems that their search results lag a bit, and are less fresh than a
Google search. But the rule of thumb remains, appear in Google =
appear in Yahoo.
