Question ID: 174388
I read some time back that some large cultural facility in New York
City – it may have been the Met – solved the problem of women waiting
in long lines for their turns in the women's rest rooms and men
getting tired of waiting for their ladies. The facility made the
number of toilets in the women's rooms equal the combined total number
of both the toilets and the urinals in the men's rooms. Five toilets
and six urinals in the men's rooms would require that there be 11
toilets in the ladies rooms. (I have seen this called "potty parity!")

I vaguely recollect that there are some city or state building codes
that require a similar solution to the long-standing (no pun intended)
problem of women waiting and waiting in line and men waiting and
waiting for the women.

I would like to find a list of what cities and states or facilities
have adopted the solution for the women's rooms.

Also, and this is important, I want to be able to download or obtain a
copy of the city and state provisions so that I can use them as a
model for legislation.

Thanks for any help. And any comments from people other than the
answerer would also be appreciated.

Hi writer32,
I didn't want to answer until I found all the cities/states, here's what I found:
Washington
Wisconsin
Pennsylvania
Illinois
Florida
California

"Equitable Restrooms Act"
http://stars.csg.org/ssl/1993/93ssl135.pdf

Let me know if this is the kind of answer you're looking for.

That's exactly what I want. But I do want the actual provisions of the
city and state laws.

Also, if there are any articles in periodicals and in legal journals
and reviews that I can get discussing the legislation, that would also
be appreciated. Since I am adding this, I will add a tip of $10 for
the articles.

Thanks.

What else are you looking for?

In response to your request for clarification, I didn't think you were
finished yet because you didn't include the links to almost all of the
statutes for the states that you had listed: I didn't see links for
Washington, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, and California.

(The link for Pennsylvania related to labor regulations, and did not
inlcude a link to the statute itself.)

Also, the Tennessee link was for an attorney general regulation
regarding organized camps. It was not a link to the statute itself.

You have found a bunch of stuff, but, as I had said originally, I had
wanted links to the statutes themselves so that I could print them
out. (I want to give copies of the state statutes to a legislator who
can introduce a similar bill in our state legislature.)

Thanks for the help so far.

This is what I asked for in original question:

"I would like to find a list of what cities and states or facilities
have adopted the solution for the women's rooms.

"Also, and this is important, I want to be able to download or obtain
a
copy of the city and state provisions so that I can use them as a
model for legislation."

I am confused. When you last asked in a clarification question what
else did I want, I replied that you only had one link to the statutes
themselves and that I did want links to the state statutes. Do you
intend to go any further or are you stopping here???

I just don't know if there is some miscommunication or what???

This is part of what I wrote in my original question:

"I would like to find a list of what cities and states or facilities
have adopted the solution for the women's rooms.

"Also, and this is important, I want to be able to download or obtain
a

I am confused. When you last asked in a clarification question what
else did I want, I replied that you only had one link to the statutes
themselves and that I did want links to the state statutes of the
states that you named. Do you intend to go any further or are you
stopping here???

I just don't know if there is some miscommunication somewhere???

Have a look at solution in France where they invented urinals for
women. You simply line up at a wall like a line of men at a busy
toilet and manouveure and adequately partly loosen your clothing until
you are in a position to place your pelvis flush up into a large cup
type arrangment pretty similar to the shape of the woman's pelvis in
fact but connected to a long hollow shaft that connects into wall of
urinal. There must be a photo of this apparatus somewhere on the net'.
