I want to watch proceedings of the United Nations Security Council on

channels available. Where and when is it on?

Hi Lexi,

Searching high and low, I've found no broadcast schedule for UN
Security Council meetings for any television station. It appears that
the UN Security Council sessions are not regularly aired on
television.

That didn't seem right to me, so I called my local cable company
(BuckeyeCablevision - 419-724-9800 ). The representative at Buckeye
said they were *occasionally* broadcast on CNN and sometimes CSPAN.
So I investigated the CNN website (no mention) and the CSPAN website
(mention of "current affairs" for CSPAN-3, and some UN footage in the
video archive):

CSPAN3
http://www.c-span.org/watch/index.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS3

My next step was to check the UN website for a broadcast schedule.
There isn't one, but there *is* an events schedule:

Meetings Calendar
http://www.un.org/events/index.html

...which you can use to check against daily C-SPAN events...as well as
for use with the UN's own Live and On-Demand webcasts:

Webcasts From The United Nations
http://www.un.org/webcast/

You'll find that the footage of the March 7th Security Council Meeting
is archived there, and the next one will likely be webcast live.

I hope this helps you get your UN news fix!

Wow, that was fast! :) I'll have to get my hands on a Windows machine
to see the webcasts, but the descriptions look promising.

I think it is a bit scarry that only rarely are UN activities
available in video or audio. My guess is WTO, GATT, NAFTA, NATO, CFR
and the Bildabergers live are even more rare. Perhaps the conspiracy
theoroists are correct/The rich and powerful don't want us to know
what evil they are ploting. My guess is letters and Email we send to
these international organizations rarely get read by anyone interested
in the opinions of common folks. Neil

On top of the UN webcast site, you'll find a number of international
conferences are webcast by the Inetnational Telecommunications Union
(a UN specialisedd agency). See http://www.itu.int or
http://www.itu.ch

There are also sometimes webcasts on sites set up for specific
international conferences like Kyoto - though these are often only
available live or for a limited time afterwards, because they are very
expensive to keep up and UN server resources thus tend to be re-used
for the next big conference.
