When I boot up my computer (Windows 98), right at the end after the
desktop is visible, I get an error message - "S32EVNT1.DLL AND
SYMEVNT.386 DO NOT MATCH. What does this mean and how can I fix the
problem? I receiently had a virus that messed a lot of things up but
this appears to be the only problem left. thanks

vanguy...

Thanks for your question. It appears that you are attempting to run
Norton anti-virus and you have an older version of a Symantec file.
There are two options:

Delete a file
1. Delete all copies of Symevnt.386 from all local drives.
2. Restart the computer

If this does not work, then try this method:
Download and run a file
1. Download the most recent version of the Sevinst.exe file from the
following Internet address:
For Windows 95/98/ME and NT/2000
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/symevnt/sevinst.exe
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Browse to the folder where you saved Sevinst.exe, and then
double-click Sevinst.exe.
4. Modify the command line to use the appropriate switch or switches:
For Windows 9x/Me add the /r switch after Sevinst.exe. Your command
line should be similar to:

C:\Temp\Sevinst.exe /r

5. Restart the computer.

Error: "S32EVNT1.DLL and SYMEVNT.386 do not match" after upgrading

I hope this solves your issue. Thanks again for your question and if
you need any additional clarification, please let me know prior to
rating my answer.

Sorry for the delay in answering - I've tried both of your suggestions
thusfar with no luck in eliminating the problem. Let me check with
you as I am not all that literate changing command lines etc. On the
second method, after downloading the most recent version of the
sevinst.exe file from symanted.com, I went back to step one and
deleted all copies of symvnt.386 then followed your instructions to
click start -- run -- found the folder with sevinst.exe in it (it was
on my desktop) and then added the /r to the end of the line. Was this
then the "Command Line" you were refering to? I then punched OK and
the program ran. It told me to reboot the computer, which I did but
the same error message came up. Did do it correctly?

It sounds as if you did it correctly. Let me do some additional
research and see if I can come up with additional info.
