Hi brooke, I have two sites hosted for mysef and have set up hosting for several clients, so I have some experience with this, but I'm also not affiliated in any way with any hosting companies. I've looked at this a lot in the past and again today, and the best prices and value I've ever seen are at AM Hosting. I have a friend who uses them for clients and is very happy with the service and performance - they even publish their servers' uptime logs every day on their site. The address is http://www.amhosting.com and the two cheapest packages are listed below: Webstarter Plan - $4.95/month ¤ 25 MB of Storage Space ¤ 5 Email accounts ¤ Perl 5 ¤ Sendmail support ¤ Real Audio/Video support Basic Plan - $7.95/month ¤ 50 MB of Storage Space ¤ 10 Email Accounts ¤ MySQL ¤ PHP4 ¤ Perl 5 ¤ Sendmail support ¤ Real Audio/Video support 25 MB should be plenty of size for a personal page, even if you're sharing digital camera pictures. If you need more, you can always move to a higher-end package of service. Applications like a Guest Book and the ability to use forms are built in to all packages. The Basic plan also allows you to run database applications and dynamic pages with PHP/MySQL if you're in to that kind of thing. The only other site I found in my search that approached the price point of AM was Host Save, and their information is posted below: http://www.hostsave.com/ 60 MB Disk Space $7.95/month I hope this answers your question, please let me know if I can add more. boxcar | |

You can do better than 50M/$8/mo. I get 100M/$8/mo with http://www.netmar.com/ . Other places that have similar plans (that I have not personally tried) include: http://www.verycheapwebhosting.net (100M/$48/year) http://www.featureprice.com/ (1G/$10/mo) http://www.your-site.com/ (50M/$5/mo) That's just of the first few I randomly tried. Have a look around http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Hosting/ for other alternatives - there may be other features that make or break the deal (bandwidth restrictions, content restrictions, port restrictions, operating systems available, scripting environments available, etc.) |

Aloha, Brooke! I have setup about 20 websites with DigitalSpace.Net and have been very impressed with their service and reliability. I have always used their $3/month package, which is more than enough for most sites. It includes: 10Mb space 2.5Gb data transfer/month unlimited number of pop accounts, forwarders, and autoresponders full cgi-bin access permanent IP address web-based control panel and loads more. There is also a 10 day free trial, virtually instant setup (no credit card required), and no setup fee. These guys are just amazing: http://www.digitalspace.net/webhosting/index.html Yours Sincerely, milesw |

freeshell.org provides a free unix shell with 20MB space, you get 100MB space if you pay a $36 onetime fee. Most of the other hosts don't offer shell access to the account, which is a big advantage of freeshell.org (telnet to sdf.lonestar.org). |
