Question ID: 175315
I've watched this twice - who is she ? I assumed she was Natalie
Portman (not her real name quite I think) because she was hyped, but
she is the queen, or is the queen the same as the senator though they
have different names ? Doesn't Annakin kiss them both ? Who is he
thinking of ? Are they the same ? If not, who is the woman in white ?
And who is the actress ?

I am going out on a limb here, since I am not absolutely certain that
the woman in white that I have in mind is the same person you're
thinking of, but here goes...

The woman in white is portrayed by the beautiful and elegant Natalie
Portman. Queen Amidala and Senator Amidala are one and the same.

Notice the caption here:

"Anakin (Hayden Chrstensen) and Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) lead
the Jedi warriors into battle against Jango Fett's army."

"Padme Amidala"

"Senator Amidala"

Here's a "biography" of Amidala that describes her career as both
Queen and as Senator of Naboo:

Search terms used:

"queen amidala"
"senato amidala"
"star wars"
"episode ii"
"natalie portman"

I hope this clears things up for you. I am still in shock at the
Anakin/Amidala romance. In my view, she should be babysitting that
kid, not smooching him. I bet she won't like him much when he grows up
and puts on the Vader suit. ;-)

If I have the wrong "woman in white," please request clarification,
and I'll be glad to try again.

Best regards,
pinkfreud

Thats definitely her - but I am still confused. I was sure Annakin
called her 'Padme' or something when introducing her to Lars...in fact
I rather think he calls her that to her face at a later time...Is that
a pet name for her ? I am probably suffering from the fact that I
watched Episode I in Spanish with sub-titles and don't really recall
to much from that ! Thanks

Padme is her first name:

"Born Padmé Naberrie, Queen Amidala was the formal name of the royal
leader of Naboo."

Brinkster

The word "padme" means "lotus" in Sanskrit, and the word is part of a
Tibetan Buddhist chant, "Om mani padme hum," which roughly translates
as "Oh, the jewel of the lotus."

Ah, thank you - that last link ties up all my confused memories,
including from the first film where I remembered two people as
apparently queen !

Hi, wolvies!

The Brinkster link does indeed seem to be dead, but you can still
access a cached copy of it here:

I hope this helps you in your debate with your friends.

Here's another version, from StarWars.com, that mentions Queen
Amidala's first name:
