General practicioners, physiotherapists, occupational therapists or other health pforessionals who specialise in, or treat patients with fibromyalgia. They must be in Geelong Victoria, or Melbourne if none available in Geelong. I am most particularly interested in a medical doctor in Geelong. |

HI there Will3 I have 'been there done that' with fibromyalgia (and I barrack for the Cats!!!) so I really understand your need to get some help. I did a search on Google's Australian pages using: fibromyalgia and geelong as the key words. I came up with a fibromyalgia self help group right there in Geelong which I sourced via <http://www.arthritisvic.org.au/About/selfhelpgroups.htm> The contact person is Lyn and her contact number is listed as ph. 5250 2548 She might be able to give you a range of therapists in your area who come recommended by some of the group's members. Other than that, if you're still unable to find anyone, your local yellow pages will be a mine of information if you let your fingers do the walking ;) Just call a few of the therapists and ask the question. Their receptionists will be able to tell you straight away if they have an particular interest/ability in treating fibromyalgia. If you're into alternative remedies, here's an interesting albeit basic site which will give you some of the options on offer, some of which might be helpful: <http://www.badback.com.au/az_therapies.htm> In addition, you might be interested in knowing that I am now pain free and asymptomatic and I credit this with the combination of three things: flax seed oil taken daily, laser acupuncture (administered by a GP in suburban Boronia) and Feldenkrais -- just three visits. After nearly a decade of intense pain and debilitation, and with support (but no 'cure') from conventional medicine I am hale and hearty again. Good luck and say 'hi' to the guys in the T&G clock for me! |

Thanks for your reply stressed mum. I had already discovered the support group in Geelong and have been to several meetings. No one really has found a good gp, however I have recently had one recommended by an osteopath I have just started visiting. I was impressed with the osteopath and have had the best week pain wise for the past 2 years. Hope its not just a coincidence. I unfortunately have irritable bowel so cannot take flaxseed however I do go to an accupunturist who is great, just can't afford to go often as I would like. Ther anre no Feldenkrais practioners in Geelong and a car trip to Melb is not an option for me at present. Thanks for letting me know there is someone out there who has recovered! |

The following is a highly recommended and bestselling book that touches on the subject of fibromyalgia: "The Mindbody Prescription" by John E. Sarno, M.D. It helped me tremendously with a condition of severe repetitive stress injury, and the author applies the same principles to fibromialgia. I found it to be a very powerful approach. Best wishes! |
