Question ID: 175689
I have ReplayTV and a DVD+RW burner and I'd like to archive TV shows
I've recorded on my ReplayTV to DVDs for later viewing. I downloaded
a program called DVArchive which has allowed for me to move shows off
of my ReplayTV and on to my computer hard drive. I then downloaded
several DVD burning packages including Nero and tried to burn the mpeg
file off of my hard drive onto a DVD. This is where I need help. All
of the burning programs come back with an error saying that the mpeg
file mpeg2 and that it needs to be converted before being burned.
Basically what I need to know, is how do I get these mpeg files onto a
DVD+R disk that I can play on my standard DVD player?

What I don't want from this question is an in-depth history of the
mpeg format, the merits of DiVX vs. VCD vs. SVCD vs. AVI or a rant
about the DMCA and the Macrovision copy protection scheme. In all my
searching for the answer to this question this seems to be what I
encounter and I don't have the time to wade through 20 pages of
encoding algorthms to find out the answer to this relatively simple
question. Pleas help a man back up some Star Trek episodes.

One more thing - I would greatly prefer the recommendation of free
tools over tools that must be paid for (A 100% tip if your advice
leads to a successful dvd burning using free tools). Thank you.

For me, this site is a maze of acronyms and long boring articles I
don't have the time nor the desire to read. I am willing to pay 5
bucks to someone who can spell it out as briefly as possible. For
example:

1) download tool XXX from this link:
2) open the mpg file using Tools->Video Input
3) press the convert button
4) download the tool XXX from this link:
5) burn using this tool by....etc...

There is no answer at this time.
