How can I effectively use Google to search for federal, state and
local government bid opportunities (request for quotation)? When I
search for "photo id" all I seem to end up with is other photo id
suppliers or dealers, not publically published bid opportunities.

Greetings, cabinjohn!

You can "Add to Favorites" the following search URLs (you might want
to put them in a "Favorites" subfolder entitled "Bid Opportunities" or
something like that). To make your life easier, these strings have
been set up to search only pages updated in the last 3 months (since
the deadline dates for RFPs issued before that date have probably
expired), with all results shown 100 per page.

You can set up your own searches like this by putting the search
string you want in the box, clicking "Google Search", and then when
the results appear, click on "Advanced Search" above the search text
box. This formats your search string properly for the Advanced Search,
and then you can choose number of results per page, last modified date
range for pages, and other options.

Enclosing words in quotation marks says "Find me all occurrences of
these words in this exact order" (exact phrase).

I've added "&filter=0" at the end of each string produced by the
Advanced Search; this has the same effect as going to the last page of
the Search Results and clicking on
"In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some
entries very similar to the 26 already displayed. If you like, you can
repeat the search with the omitted results included."
