Dear writerguy-ga;
Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.
Surprisingly, as it turns out, the greatest minds in this field appear
more than willing to discuss their vast collective knowledge with
those interested in their work. I spent a great deal of time carefully
selecting only those who are leading authorities in this subject or
those whose work has been widely recognized by the technology
community. Of these, I searched and found a number of them who have
posted their contact information to allow others who have an interest
in these matters, like yourself, to speak with them:
Here you will find contact information for Frank Biocca,
Human-computer interaction/virtual reality Ameritech professor of
telecommunication and adjunct professor of communication, Michigan
State University. He has posted his contact information, presumably,
for just these types of inquiries. The

Jaron Lanier, who was selected in Richard Saul Wurman's book, Who's
Really Who as one of the 1000 "most creative" people in America, also
happens to be a widely sought after lecturer on the topic of virtual
reality. He is knows as a pioneer of virtual reality and is the person
credited with first coining the phrase in the 1980s.

Lanier was a guest speaker at TIME MAGAZINES FUTURE OF LIFE which
also featured the likes of executives, researchers, professors and a
Nobel Laureate.

DONNA COX is currently a professor in the School of Art and Design at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and holds a joint
appointment with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications.
Cox has combined computer technology and art in innovative ways to
create new forms of scientific visualization, garnering numerous
awards and international acclaim. She's regarded as a pioneer of the
"second wave" in computer art and is well-known for her work in
developing the idea of "Renaissance Teams," and was an associate
producer for the Academy Award-nominated IMAX film, "Cosmic Voyage."

Here is a link containing contact information for the entire team of
the Knowledge Based Systems (KBS) Group at University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. The research of the KBS Group focuses on
Intelligent Reasoning and Learning within the context of
Human-Computer Interaction. Examples of research areas are uncertainty
reasoning, machine learning, automated knowledge acquisition,
critiquing systems, expert system shells, intelligent tutoring,
knowledge-based simulation, and natural language processing. Many
projects involve an interplay between expert shell architectures,
machine learning, probabilistic reasoning and immersive interfaces.

This young man is fast becoming an authority in the field of virtual
reality. Foo Meng Ng (Steven), has a PhD in PhD in Mechanical
Engineering with Research Experience in Virtual Reality Based Design
and Manufacturing Systems and Visual Classification & Coding Systems.
As one of his final year projects he helped supervise the creation of
the The Virtual Robot, (1997-1998) and he is the author of four
publications on the topic.. His research interests include:
Designing and Planning Cable Harnesses in Virtual Environments.
Navigational Awareness and WayFinding in Virtual Environments.

Below you will find that I have carefully defined my search strategy
for you in the event that you need to search for more information. By
following the same type of searches that I did you may be able to
enhance the research I have provided even further. I hope you find
that that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any
questions about my research please post a clarification request prior
to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final
comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near
future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.
