Question ID: 176419
i am looking for a currently available (can be purchased now without
custom tooling, etc.) 3-pin SMT (surface mount) board-to-board
connector pair with the following specifications:

- board to board height of 3.6mm (absolute requirement)
- minimum 160mA (milli amp) current carrying requirement (can be
higher)
- X-Y footprint must fit within 5.0mm x 6.2mm (smaller OK)

some potential/example connector companies: amp, molex, hirose,
foxconn, fci, jst, hosiden, ddk, honda, kel, omron, teka, yamaichi,
acon.

answer should include part number(s) for a connector pair that meets
these specifications.

thanks.

this connector pretty much needs to *NOT* be a super expensive medical
or military item... though that seems unlikely in any case.

thanks.

though aslightly less elegant, a 4-pin connector pair that otherwise
met the size and electrical constraints would be acceptable as well.

one additional constraint (for which i have increased the payment for
the question :)

i have found smt connector pairs in which there are required thruholes
such that the connectors pieces themselves are smt parts, but the male
pins go through the board on the female side of the connector (After
passing through the concector.) unfortunately, i cannot in general use
these connectors (might be possible if the depth into the board were
on the order of 1mm or less, but anything greater would require
trimming of the other side and that would increase manufacturing
risk/cost.

thanks.

This does seem tough to look for... but I'll let you know I'm looking.
Other researchers might be looking too.

having searched a bit myself, i appreciate the difficulty of this
task!

at the same time i am convinced the perfect connector is out there,
but it is quite difficult to find and time is critical.

if it is found soon, i will also tip appropriately (and it will prove
the utility of google answers beyond a doubt in my mind :)

in any case, thanks for looking.

ps: one possible solution that i considered was a spring loaded
surface contact connector of some sort. however, i am specifically
looking for a mating pin or blade type connector. though if the
perfect spring conector were located, i might reconsider.

thanks for everyone's work. i located the connector last night.

You said that this connector pair was to join two circuit boards
together.
Are they joined end to end, at right angles, or overlapped? Can they
be joined at right angles?
