Hi whit537,

I'm not sure there is a traceable quotation for the theme you suggest.
It's actually a re-wording of a commonly known saying: "truth by
repeated assertion." In essence, it just means that the more times
you say something, the more you're willing to believe it's fact
without proper evidence and/or research. I hope someone can find the
original quote, though. It's always interesting to see where popular
myth originates from.

Good luck,

This site:
http://www.pseudoscience.org/definiti-pseudo.htm
attributes the quotation "A lie repeated often enough becomes the
truth" to "G. Goebbles". I assume by this they mean Joseph Goebbels,
Hitler's chief propagandist, but I'm not posting this as an official
answer because a) it's not the exact quote, b) I haven't seen this
attributed to Goebbels anywhere else and c) this isn't necessarily the
first sighting of this quotation. But I hope it helps.

Actually, a large number of sites attribute the phrase to Joseph
Goebbels. But I haven't been able to find a single reliable source, so
to claim he coined it is just speculation.

carwfloc,

Thanks for your comment. It looks like I may be a victim myself,
hearing something often enough to believe it a quotation! It is
helpful to know the phrase in its common form, and it will be
interesting to see what someone comes up with for an answer.

By "myth" do you mean my posited quotation, or the idea itself?

jeeagle,

Thanks for your comments. The Goebbels reference does jog my memory. I
do feel like I heard the idea specifically related to
marketing/advertising somewhere, though.
