Question ID: 17655
I'm looking for a new backup Perl programmer... a death in the family
put my main programmer out of action.

Do you know where I can find Perl programmers

Any ideas on how to find Perl programmers that:
- offer good value (not the cheapest)
- are reliable (stick to a pre-planed schedule)
- stay focused
- give input to make the scripts better
- write for Unix servers
- have a solid knowledge of common tools and protocols (DNS, HTML,
POP, etc.)
- work with yabb forums (bonus points here)

I offer:
- fast, higher than average pay via c2it or PayPal
- written outlines (so there's no rewrites or confusions)
- telecommuting (work from home... no travel)
- reasonable deadlines (no rush jobs)

I'd like to see examples of their work (send as many
Web site URLs using Perl) along with a 100 or less e-mail note (no
attachments) to:perl@markusallen.org .

I look forward to your help finding a new backup Perl programmer.

Warmly

Hi Markus,
Thanks for choosing Google for your requirement of a PERL programmer.
Believe me, if I had a good experience in Perl, I'd have give you my
name only.... :)
Now, regarding your search for a backup programmer, there are lots n
lots of places over net where you can look for programmers. In this
world of low employment and high expertise, if you want one
programmer, you'll find 10.

The best place I use for my projects is www.elance.com
Its a one stop shop for any type of project. To get your project
completed, the process is also very simple. All you do is that open a
project on elance with
your project details and what exactly you are looking for. Once you
open the project, people start bidding on it and then you can select
the best bidder which fit into your requirements. You can ask for
their prior experiences, you can set your project rate and many other
things. Once you are ok with a particular bid, you declare that bidder
as winner and then the bidder will start working on that project. You
can set your terms and conditions for your project regarding payments,
schedule, testing, quality and so on.
No hastles and in case you don't like the work of the bidder, you can
ask for the refund from Elance. Everything is very much organised and
automated.
Now the fine prints ... there is a fee for using elance. You can pay
monthly, quarterly or annually... its your choice but like everywhere
else, monthly rate is costly then quarterly and annually. But if you
do not want to pay now, then you can use someone's elance a/c to place
your project. If you do not find someone, let me know, I can help you
in that.
Please do not think that I'm doing any sort of marketing for them. I'm
telling you this because I myself use elance for projects and its
really very cool and its my favorite place for project search and
placements.

So this was all about elance.

Now there are many sites which I searched for Perl experts and here is
a bunch of them. Check them for your requirements:
http://www.rf.net/~sv-pm-org/commerce/wants.html
http://designerindex.com/Programmers/Specialist/Perl/index.shtml
http://www.123webmaster.com/Commerce_Center/Programmers/Perl_Programmers/

You can also post your requirement on job related sites. Here are some
of the useful and my favorite sites:
www.monster.com
www.jobs.com
www.guru.com
http://jobs.perl.org/

I hope this will help you in finding the right programmer for you.
Feel free to ask for clarifications.

Regards,
netcrazy

As a Perl programmer myself I find that one of the best and most
reliable resources is Perl's own job forum: http://jobs.perl.org/

I believe that registering as an employer seeking staff is free there,
so it certainly wouldn't hurt you to post the above specifications
over at that site.

You could also have a look at the cgi-resources website.
http://www.cgi-resources.com, and click on Jobs.

yup, posting jobs to jobs.perl.org is free. Employers frequently
write to us and tell how happy they are with how well it worked.

  - ask (ask@perl.org)
