lowest airline fare from new york to athens and then athens to the
island of kefalonia. its going to be round trip for two people. dates
of travel are july 3 to july 21, slightly flexible within 3 - 4 days,
i've tried all the major sites like expedia, cheap tickets, orbitz,
etc. and i'm getting 950+ pp which is too much. Please find me a
package deal from nyc to athens, greece--->athens, greece to kefalonia
and back again in the month of july for under 900 dollars. thanx.

Would you consider going to London or Amsterdam and getting a cheap
package to Kefalonia from there?

thanx for the respose, i thought noone would take on this question.
The answer is yes, i would consider connecting in london or
amsterdaam. My concern is whether that is possible with an american
passport. I don't think that kefalonia has customs so i don't know if
i would have to go through customs in athens. If what you're proposing
is possible than yeah i would do it.

Hi,Jerry, I think the reason nobody has answered may be that they
couldn't find any tickets for less than $900, I know I tried a few
places and the lowest was over $1,000. As a commenter, I can make
suggestions which may, or may not, be helpful:

(1) If you can get a cheap ticket to London (lon), here are some
options to Kefalonia (efl),

  * travelselect.com has a fare from Lon (Heathrow) for 268 stg.

  * Opodo.co.uk  has a fare for 240 stg.
      Problem with Opodo, which is owned by European airlines, is that
you need to have an address within the UK for their UK website for any
tickets that need to be posted out.

  Points to note: exchange rate on the day you book, baggage allowance
(for transatlantic travel it's very very generous, one bag onboard,
plus two items of luggage; not so for travel within Europe), travel
between London airports.

   * Traveljungle.com has a fare of US $429

(2) The travel agency recommended by Frommers.com (a good source for
info on budget travel) is Homeric Tours, www.homerictours.com, and
they don't seem to have anything. However, www.farandwide.com seem
more promising ... if you go there and put in your zip code in New
York, they will give you a list of local agents; even if they can't
give a Far and Wide deal, they may be able to consolidate a cheap
ticket to northern Europe with another to Kefalonia.

(3) As I remember, all of the cheap airfare deals in (1) above were
with the same airline, Olympic Airways, and this Greek airline also
flies from New York. It's possible that they may be willing to give
you low prices too ... their number is 800-223-1226. (And if you buy
from them, it should be something like New York - Athens and Athens -
Kefalonia, and you should get the transatlantic baggage allowance + a
dollar-denominated fare.)
   Their website is: http://www.olympic-airways.gr/ They don't have
online booking.

Best wishes, intotravel-ga.
