I could get one of the PC emulator programs, or a PC card, but am looking for an eaiser & cheaper method to open .exe files that I find on the Web. Does Mac OSX open them automatically? What else, if anything? TXS |

Connectix VirtualPC (unfortunately) www.connectix.com This is said to be a very good emulator, and speedy enough for most things. I wouldn't go for a card - software is cheaper to upgrade - anyway you already have a great processor. Alas, no - OSX won't open these directly. But I recommend OSX 10.2 (Jaguar) highly. There is a bit of hassle with older apps, but most will run fine in the "classic" environment in the interim. |

There is this DOS emulator for Linux. Don't know much about it. You may be able to compile it under OSX. It's distributed under a GPL licence - so essentially free. http://inspirenet.linux.tucows.com/system/preview/8178.html (BTW - the "unfortunately" comment about VPC is that it is quite expensive IMHO - you need to be a regular DOS/Windows victim in order to justify it.) |

Bochs is free, but difficult to use, available for MacOSX, and is a PC emulator. You will still need a copy of Windows to install on the emulated PC, though. http://bochs.sourceforge.net/getcurrent.html --seizer-ga |

Best way is to get a PC(check out www.slickdeals.net, dell pcs for 400$), dont get monitor, network the two through a router. And use VNC for Mac OS. This is the only reasonable solution, all others should give you enough headache to drop the idea. |
