I need a Map of the Travels of Osborne Russell. Russell Was A "Mountain Man" AKA Fur Trapper during the 1800's He Published a book called "Journal of a Trapper" and I think there might be a map in the book... but I couldn't find the book locally and I figured that the map might be out there on the internet... Im not looking specifically for the map from the book, just a map of his travels | |

Dear wasson101-ga; Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question. Here you will find an image of the hand-drafted map of the area in which Osborne Russell traveled in 1834 and perhaps for a time thereafter. http://www.xmission.com/%7Edrudy/mtman/html/astoria/astoriamap.jpg I found the link here: LIFELONG LEARNING ONLINE http://www.l3-lewisandclark.com/ShowOneObject.asp?SiteID=77&ObjectID=846 In 1830, then only 16 years old, Osborne Russell of Maine ran away from home to try his hand at sea. A mariners life did not agree with him and he returned, eventually signing on to the fur trapping expedition of Nathaniel Jarvis Wyeth in 1834. Wyeth has already led one successful expedition in 1832 and was bent upon exploring the Oregon country again. Russell joined his band and accompanied Wyeth and his men on their journey. Russell gained the necessary skills to become a mountain main in his own right and lived in the mountains until 1843 when he settled in Oregon.
