I need some facts about respiration and breathing in general. Is there
an article or brochure that answers questions like "How many times a
day the average person breaths?" How many times a minute? Other
educational facts that could be found in a pamphlet of interest like
how many times you breath during sleep. What is healthy breathing? Are
there any other gases, liquids, or solids expelled other than CO2 when
we exhale? What facts would amaze most people about breathing or
respiration? And is this information docummented in scientific
journals or text books or through a recognized professional
organizaion?

There's a lot of information on the web about breathing. If you'd like
to find all of the answers to your questions in a single place,
encyclopedia-type articles on human respiration are probably your best
bet.

This World Book Encyclopedia article might be a good start:
http://worldbook.bigchalk.com/465800.htm

The Encyclopedia Britannica's article on human respiration seems very
comprehensive. The Britannica is a membership-based site, but you can
sign up for a free 72-hour trial. The respiration article is at:
http://www.britannica.com/eb/article?eu=128771

This article by Michael Fenner on WellnessWeb also seems very good:
http://www.wellnessweb.com/masterindex/breathing/about_respiration.htm

This article on the respiratory system by Dr. Claudia S. Plottel is
from the "Women's Complete Healthbook":
http://www.amwa-doc.org/publications/wchb/FILE026.html

The article emphasizes the relationship between athletic performance:
http://www.smartheartrate.com/breathing.htm

There's a pretty interesting pamphlet on breathing put out by the
Australian government. It's in PDF format, so you'll need the Adobe
Acrobat reader to view it:
http://www.health.qld.gov.au/spot/Handbook/2G.pdf

These lecture notes from Professor Gul Erdemli in the United Kingdom
offer a very detailed explanation of the breathing process complete
with illustrations and diagrams (PDF format):
http://www.liv.ac.uk/~gdwill/hons/gul_lect.pdf

Search terms: breathing respiration "breaths per minute" oxygen "Gas
exchange"

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any additional information.

I recently did some research on different types of breathing, so I
thought maybe some of these links could come in handy.
